I love stupid questions!

An ameture site would be something like Netwise (sorry) or my site...

In fact, many sites made by individuals here would be classed as amature.

A professional site would be something like SR, Play, Yahoo. Just a site that has a very big reputation and receives many hits.

SR is just a small example but they get millions of page views per month, our sites get a matter of thousands...

A big difference.

Well, that would depend on the individual wanting to advertise, but really, knowone will pay to advertise anything on an amature site because the chances of them making anything from it are to minimal these days.

You're more likely to get money by having a 'Donate Money' button from Paypal :)

To be honest, chances of you making any money from Banners for amature sites are slim to none.

Just over £100 so far...

OK, nothing...

I've had 150 odd people click the links and I've got no sales.

Don't expect loads of money, at this rate I'm heading for nothing!
