How many Italians have appeared in the chelsea Team this year........i believe the answer is ......drumroll please............. a whole mighty .......2. Zola and Cudicini (and not to forget our Italian manager).
This is hardly a strong italian influence. The dutch Influence on the team is noticably stronger:
Hasselbaink, Melchiot, Zenden and De goey (and the delightful Bogarde making the odd appearance and collecting cheques faster than the millenium dome) all appearing for the first team this season with Gudjohnsen and Gronkjaer both learning there trade in holland. Dutch and English arethe first languages of the Chelsea team. In fact our French influence is stronger than the italian influence With Gallas, Desailly and Petit both regular starters.
Then such people claim: your team was all italian in the late 1990's. Which actually translates to: we had Di Matteo, Zola and vialli admittedly 3 of our best players.....but hardly our whole team.
Once beaten down such people go, "well anyway your all foreigners" again truish but a changing fact. Terry, Cole, lampard, Morris and the ageing le saux shows we are actually making and effort to become british, whilst liverpools signings last season were all african and Bruno Cheyro:
Dudek
Riise
Hyppia
Traore
Biscan
Henchoz
Babbel
Berger
Smicer
Hamman
Cheyrou
Diao
Diouf
Baros
Just to name the regular starters at anfield, I believe bolton have fielded an all foreign team this year, and a similar analysis can be done with the arsenal team and several to liverpool, with an actual national identity of french coming through the team. At least chelsea are trying to change. 2 summers ago everyone was saying oh Chelsea are italian and arsenal are french, at leaset chelsea have tried to change something. We arrive at the summer and we see ooooooooooooooooh Pascal Cygan arrive...courtesy of his passport, then the transfer window comes and arsenal need a keeper. Lets guess the nationality, oh, i think he is french, oh look Guillame Warmuz. And the situation is getting worse. Of Keown and Seaman go into retirement. Leaving Cole and Campbell to speak English to each other. Jeffers, parlour (and wiltord) are touted as the summers realistic big departures to fund moves for new players, and who are the players linked to the club......Predominantly: Mexes, Frey and Trezuguet (with Terry chucked in as the token englishman which won't materialise). Oh and the managers french, in case you hadn't noticed. And their Best prospect for the future, Aliadere. Maybe they'll buy another token Brazilian to mix with the french. Chelsea's nationality concerns are actually improving under Rainieri who has tried to make an English backbone with the limited funding in comparison to the old days of chelsea.
People ought to be congratulating people like Rainieri who are actually trying to remedy this situation, and even more so the likes of Alex Ferguson who have always maintained a strong British contingent.

Haven't Arsenal signed Marcos but are just giving him a year to get his family settled here or something?
Or did I dream that? :-D
Dutch

Well actually...

Sol Campbell- Englands best defender by a country mile
Ashley cole- Very good left back
Martin Keown-I know it, You know it, Arsene knows it, keown know's that he is well past his sell by date. The last of the old Guard has fallen. He has lost his legs and is only holding out for a replacement in the summer. Probably won't play ten games next season. Keown only made the WC squad for the world cup because of terry's misdamenour, Sven realised King was Crap, and Ugo Ehiogu got robbed.
Jeffers- i feel is over rated, though may yet prove me wrong, an undenaible cheat, but that is irrelevant. Definitely not worth his transfer fee. His fate maybe decided by any forwards signed this summer. if none come then he'll get a chance to prove me wrong..... If Trezeguet or the likes arrive at highbury i'd say byebye.
Taylor won't make it... I like the Lad, A big name will come in the summer and choke him out probably Rustu. A goalkeeper and centre back are the only guaranteed positions that will be filled this summer. he is only starting due to injuries. When was the last time a keeper came through the youth system of a big club. All the best keepers have come from smaller clubs and moved onto greater things. Big clubs haven't got the patience for youth keepers, they always need a big name between the posts.
Seaman: Was the right choice for england in the world cup, but at a team of arsenal's pedigree he will be replaced. Even the great Schmeichel couldn't hold on for ever! I expect someone like Rustu, Robinson or Marcos in goal next season. I sincerely hope its robinson as its always nice to see England's top keepers at englands top clubs, with some of englands top defenders.
Parlour is inded an unsung hero but I will be surprised if he stays much longer, as a lot of slightly lesser clubs of the Man city, Boro standard are prowling and he will eventuallyu be forced out. Such Fringe players nearly always end up leaving the only real notable exception being Nicky butt.
Seaman and Keown will either retire or become squad players. Campbell, Cole will be the main english starters, and if they are both still there (and probably will be unless arsenal need funds) Jeffers and parlour will continue on squad rotation
> Arsenal are a much worse case.
We have two English keepers, one the best and one a promising talent. We have two defenders that are English first teamers, and one that should be (Keown). We have Parlour, an unsung talent, and...Jeffers.
Not our fault that you can get players of equal or better quality for less overseas.
The best homegrown players still always get through
Think of all the English kids that have dreamt of been footballers, and have not been able to make it because of the amount of foreigners in English football.
Okay it might make the Premiership less interseting and atracting, but the amount of Home Growth is decreasing every season, which doesn't look very good.
This could easily get out of hand in years to come, and could see our National side turn into a Great Britain. I'm not saying it will, but there's always that possibility.
A) stupid as so many clubs even in the lower divisions have more than 4. This would cause most top foreigners to become valueless. Not to mention Bankrupt Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and a whole host of other top teams. It wouldn't leave Villa to healthy either.....
B) it would be illegal, as members of the EU have the right to work for these football clubs if it is offered
C)It would lower the standard of the league
D) All that would happen is that crappy players from the first division would be premiership stars and it would not help the national team at all as the young talented ones make it through anyway.
Only investment in youth will help our national team, not restricting foreigners
