My parents went away for their silver anaversery on Monday, so last night I decided to go "old school" and have a few people over with some drink to sit in front of the music channels all night. My mate Fos came over first, with cans of Becks, and then Wal and his bird Laura showed up, then my mates Jay and Seb, with his bird Helen. They had industrial sized bottles of beer, cheap from ASDA (where Seb works, unlucky for him)

As soon as we were all sat down, I started having flashbacks.

Year 10 and 11, Friday night. As usual, Wal's parents are out, so everybody is at his. Big Brother 1 is all the craze, and the girls demand it be put on to see who's being evicted. The girl/boy ratio is amazing, usually just myself and Wal and maybe two or three other lads, then about eight or more lasses, nearly all single. Wal was one of the most popular kids in our year, so everyone wanted to go round.

Memories of girls taking off their tops to show us their bras, taking their bras off from under their tops, wanting to flash us but most bottling it at the last second so we only see one perfectly formed pair, it all came flooding back. 8 cans of Fosters each, wine for the ladies, The Box on the TV (not as many music channels back then) or a Dr Dre CD blasting on a hi-fi, perfect ingrediants for a good night, um... in.

Chilling in the kitchen, smoking Benson & Hedges in the garden, drinking on the staircase, chatting up the ladies in the kitchen, chatting up the ladies in the garden, chatting up the ladies on the staircase. Ah, to be 16 again...

Sorry, just had to share that trip down memory lane. No flashing last night, no feeling of breasts, no lesbian kisses, no leading a girl upstairs (or the other way around, as it usually was) just a few mates, two lasses and a whole lotta beer. Need to do it more often, had a right laugh. Dirty Sanchez came on, and let me tell you, it makes Jackass look like Rainbow. Four deranged Welshmen setting fire to their privates and stapling their ears to tables. Sick.

I miss the old days of Friday nights around Wal's. Sure, you had the bravado of the lads starting fights, sure you had the on/off couple breaking up at the end of each night, screaming the house down, sure you had the one girl crying with her friends trying to comfort her because "Chris doesn't love me!" but you never had a hangover, even after the equivilant of 8 pints, you didn't have to worry about getting knocked back by a bouncer, or about getting raped in the toilets (hey, it could happen) and you didn't have to worry about getting a taxi. You just walked the ladies home, fishing for a kiss, then walked home yourself. Ah, happy memories.

I've mentioned the Wal before, Blokey, but this is the first time they've enquired about him.

And so the legend grows.

Oh yeah, 8 cans was nothing back then. Nowadays I only drink about 6 or so pints before I simply get sick of it. Back then, it was different. Only one of my mates is a spew-aholic, for the rest of us it's a rarity.

As for Wal, it's the shortened version of his name, Walsh, and it's pronounced "wol" He's Wal, I'm G, the third member of our trio is Fos and no-one else in the group has a cool name. Except Stone Cold Psycho Bennet.

When I read Wal I think Wally, which is self explanatory if he's the one in your group that seems to wander off and get lost only to re-appear later on that night.

Anyway, I remember the nights in, a crate of whatever was on special offer usually and some smokes (not fags, what's the point in smoking if you're not going to do it right) and just getting wasted, usually about 5 of us or more camped out in my mates front room watching some video. Thinking about it, we used to have such a laugh just talking crap all night, then we'd go meet the girls, or they'd come to us, way better than some of my nights out in the local nightclubs.

Then again some nights out have been real good.

The nights in with all the mates always seem to be the ones that I remember most, they just don't par with the nights out for some reason.
