Agree that Steam is a great service. Works really well on my Mac and PC too and can swap between the two without losing my place in a game.
In fact, I've just done a re-install of Windows, wiped everything and just installed Steam for now on the PC.
However, you may have the last laugh regarding BF3 Beta ....
Tried to access my invite on the 27th and as usual.. couldn't! Why? Exactly the same requirements as BF3 Alpha....
Quote: "You're using an outdated browser etc etc update for free..."
For Alpha I did upgrade from 'outdated IE8' to 'sparkling IE9' ... job done, Alpha works etc etc.
Unfortunately, IE9 does 'strange things' and since BF3 Alpha running IE9 (which I hate, by the way) a number of my banking sites have stopped recognising me or telling me that 'You are locked out' or words to that effect. On contacting the banks in question, they have all admitted, eventually, that they are having 'issues with IE9'! (I'm talking 3 independant banks here.) So the obvious happened and I returned to IE8....we are happy :¬)
So, to return to the present, I've just received another email asking for my participation in BF3 Beta and guess what....
Origin depends upon IE9, BF3 Beta depends on IE9 and me I depend on IE8 because it works ... thank god for Steam and retail games ... Origin is a total waste of space etc etc :¬(
Suppose I should catch the bus home then. Pretty busy over the last few days. Hopefully will pay off when I can unwind with some Ico and SOTC tomorrow and maybe Gears 3 online.

Is there a noticeable delay when using Onlive?
None at all. The only noticeable thing about faster vs slower speeds is that the graphics quality decreases over lower speeds.
Yes, he was a bit of a legend when it came to writing classic comedy.
David Croft, the genius behind such wonderful shows as Dad's Army, Are You Being Served?, Hi-de-Hi and 'Allo! 'Allo!
Thank you for all the laughs. I have and will always be watching.
