Found the monitor I wanted at a decent price, ordered and on its way...
Never had so many problems getting a PC part before, I guess this particular model is popular.

I must admit all the Asus stuff I've had has been great (currently Motherboard and GPU), though for monitors I do love BenQ's quality.
The issue I've found with the 4K monitors I've tested is that the desktop and other software, excluding games, can be a little difficult to set up so that it's readable on a 24" 4K monitor. That, and you'd need a hefty GPU to make the most of 4K in more recent games, whereas 2K is a lot easier to manage.
4GB R9 380 deals with 4K admirably. Not expensive, and also quite common (as are the 480's). I think 4K has a rather bad rep for being a "GPU Killer" considering that the majority of PC gamers now will have at least a 4GB card. Maybe a year ago it'd cause a few issues, but not really now.
Plus DX 12 has had a huge impact on the overheads required by a lot of modern and upcoming games.
Incidentally, probably worth noting is that AMD have released three new sets of drivers in the last month that effectively increase the available memory for shader and texture cache on their cards by allowing the data and texture streams to be "repurposed" on the fly. The difference is noticeable, particularly under DX12 or at higher resolutions.
Also, having had several monitors from a number of different manufacturers, I can quite confidently say that my Asus monitor is by far the best I've ever had colour and contrast- wise, along with the 1Ms response time and various image enhancing features. Plus the build quality is outstanding, and the price was quite honestly ludicrously low...

4K all the way for me. No point in me getting anything less to be honest, and my PC quite happily runs at that res, so I really, really want a 4K monitor.
Has to be ASUS though, and I quite like the idea of Freesync. MG28UQ is the one I was looking at, as it had everything I wanted, but I might have to re-think if the more reputable retailers don't get stock in soon. Not paying over £500 for it!

I'm sure Mrs Chas and/or son of Chas would be more than willing to source one for Christmas for you! After all, you've been a good boy all year :¬)
Yup, it's a little problematic though. Most of the sellers are "out of stock" (nonsense according to Asus themselves), the others are either dodgy insecure retail sites or have the price jacked up to £ludicrous.
I'll wait until this Black Friday guff is all over, see if they magically reappear in stock...

Morning.
Black Friday seems to have taken over the internet, with people scrambling to spend more money. I'm trying to resist, though I've bought a few small digital games.
