Well I can't speak for the US as I don't know enough about the situation that side of the pond, but with so many people losing jobs every day in the UK it certainly looks like we're heading that way...

It would appear from recent newspaper reports that half a million people lost their jobs in November and the same amount in December - quite a few, probably a few more than the UK at present, but I suppose only time will tell.
