I do most certainly agree with you, but 2 million people is alot no matter where you are - single wage earners, couples etc the knock on effect is quite staggering, especially that there isn't many jobs available for those that have already lost them - a vicious circle.
I don't know about population ratios but it would be more accurate to compare Florida with the UK (atleast in terms of land-size).

It would appear from recent newspaper reports that half a million people lost their jobs in November and the same amount in December - quite a few, probably a few more than the UK at present, but I suppose only time will tell.
