Coulthard shows the way in Brazil
David Coulthard has won the Brazilian Grand Prix, his second career victory, with a stunning drive. The weather was hot and sunny, Coulthard started 8th on the grid and overtook everyone in front of him with little bother to take the win.
It was a race with few mistakes. The only drivers that made mistakes were Irvine and Frentzen and they only lost a couple of places because of it. Championship leader Raikkonen knew one mistake would see his lead cut or lost but it was the car that let him down as a suspension failure caused him to spin and retire on lap 34. Ralf Schumacher also stopped on lap 34 with wheel damage. Justin Wilson was looking at a podium place but was forced to stop out on track with a transmission problem.
It was Coulthard that proved he was the fastest racer in Brazil by winning and setting a new lap record of 1m14.521s. Pole sitter De La Rosa couldn't handle Coulthard pace and settled for 2nd. Trulli fought well and pushed De La Rosa all the way and finished 3rd to take the Championship lead. Pizzonia finished 4th, Verstappen finished 5th, Heidfeld 6th, Webber 7th and Alonso sneaked into 8th for the last points position.
