I've heard it said, but really, I haven't seen the evidence.
They managed to qualify for the world cup, via the play-offs I believe, coming second to Sweden in the group stage.
When they got to the World Cup, what did they achieve? Well, they were third!
But who did they play?
Brazil, lost to twice.
Costa Rica - Drew With.
Japan - beat
Senegal -Beat
Korea - Beat.
They beat Japan, Senegal (after extra-time) and South Korea.
*slow handclap*
Yeah, well done Turkey!
But now they're realy good! They're top of the qualifying group!!!
Two impressive home wins, yes. Slovakia and Liechtenstein. 8 goals. Not bad, but again, hardly world-class opposition.
Their other points came in an away game, beating Macedonia 2-1, after trailing 1-0.
So if we lose to Turkey today, or even if we draw, but are unconvincing, then it will be a terrible result.
Don't believe the hype, Turkey aren't all that just yet.
But then again, neither are England.

And we have Gerrard, Beckham and Scoles who should dominate the Midfield area.

Indeed. but do remember this was the same world cup that saw South Korea knock out Italy and Portugal, plus see Senegal beat the world champions France. Not Forgetting also that Turkey knocked out the two home nations.
Also note that no-one apart from Brazil has beaten them in the last two years.
September 5th 2001 was the last time they were beaten by someone other than Brazil. By sweden, but Sweden were very lucky. Turkey leading 1-0 for most of the game but for Sweden to snatch the game with two late goals in the 87th minute and another in injury time.
With players such as Basturk and Tugay, in midfield they are far more of a challanging team than England.
My Guess is 3-1 to the Turks, although I would love to see England whack out the Paxo!
The only thing that worries me, is that we have chosen players who should not of been chosen in the first place.
