Well today is the second day in a row that the forum is as dead as a doornail.
Why?
I know that some people regarded as good posters are leaving for reasons beyond their own control, or for decisions they have had to make that make the forum an unfortunate casualty by their leaving. I wish those people luck in these changing times. I also know that the reasons are far more complex than to ever be pinned down. We've blamed newbies, we've blamed Newbies, we've blamed spamming, we've resorted to the fact that times change.
Here is another reason. People have talked about a decline in the forums posts, and the quality of their posts, but I've also noticed a decline in replies. Maybe people don't feel all these posts are good enough to warrant a reply. Maybe people are being lathargic, but if people are neglecting to reply and encourage new posters in the forum, they are taking part in the demise of this forum.
Instead there is a distinct lack of replies. No one seems to want to comment any more. People are leaving like rats abandoning a sinking ship.
Maybe they're right, maybe the forum is doomed,
but if they were really that bothered perhaps they'd make more of a concerted effort to save or salvage something.
People have friends here.
People find solace and therapy here.
Yes, it is only a forum, but I'm sure that for some people this is an important place.
Isn't that worth making an effort for?

I only used to post on here during the day whilst at work, but during the last 2 or 3 weeks work has been a nightmare and has afforded me little time to post on here.
I don't always post in Life unless I feel that I'd be making a good point, I've seen the quality of posts from the likes of Light, Simon Says, Goatboy, Belldandy, IB etc etc (yes I've probably missed out loads sorry) on the current issue of the war and feel that I have nothing extra to add, therefore I don't bother posting.
Yes the quality lately has deteriorated by the JAT's and SOME newbies but from what I've had the chance to read over say the last week, this all seems to have reverted back to what seems like normality.

I'd like to spend more time perusing the topics in the SR forums, but at the moment I don't have enough time on my hands.... apart from right now that is. :)
I haven't replied here for a while because pretty much all the threads seemed to be about the war, and I couldn't really give a toss.
I was just about to say the same thing as YH - I gather from what a lot of people have been saying that they have not spent so much time in Life because of all the war topics that have been in here recently.
But I think Simon's point is that it isn't just Life - it's the forums in general - even Fog !! You used to go in there and topics would dissapear within half a day becuase of all the crass topics being started - look in PS forum and see how much slower that has been recently.
