This was probably not the best time to realise this fact.

Now I have to find some time to go shopping, and start the desperate search for something that he would want. Irritating man that he is, he continues to buy anything he wants right up to a week before his birthday, so there never seems to be anything to buy him. In a way he's worse than me, at least I can come up with a list of things I wouldn't mind having, he just sits there and says "I don't really think I want anything".

If he did want anything, my sister's probably bought it; in fact, she probably bought it several months ago in advance preperation.

Crap.

I can't buy him a book token! It would be indecent of me.

I could buy him some books, except that I never know what he does and doesn't have. He buys books quite a bit and there are several hundred science fiction books in the house at the minute, and there's a load in cardboard boxes in the loft.

You could just get him some antique merchandise, if he likes that sort of thing.

Whatever you get him, always side it with some aftershave.
Does wonders.

Get him a weather station. An electronic one. I got my mum one... very abstract, but she likes it.

There's a semi-circluar mark on a friends face after I drunkenly stabbed him with a Cardboard Tube on Friday night.

Give him a photo of you fighting with the Cardboard Tube (now capitalised), he'd enjoy that, surely.
