The British General isn't at liberty to confirm how many were on board the plane at this time.
But all I can say is - they seem to do it all the time, don't they.
*Shakes Head*
Our thoughts go out to the family's of the men killed.
They believe the reason it was shot down is because the night before, there were unconfirmed alerts of unmanned Iraqi planes in the vicinity.
Of course, they were most likely to have chemical/biological weapons on board, so they took no risks.
What a shame.
Someone's messed up methinks.
:-D

I can imagine the scene.
After we give no resistance (As we normally don't shoot our own men...), they celebrate.
"That was easy man, like, totally easy dude"
"Uh, sir, they have a British callsign...."
"Hmmm. They must have captured some British troops and stole their clothes"
"2000 of them sir?"
"Um. Yeah."

That'll be because the British prefer to take the necessary precautions, whereas the American's go at it gung-ho, thinking they're in a Rambo movie and can't get hurt.
Personally, I'm happy our boys are taking their time and falling behind the US troops. At least then they can't shoot us in the back thinking we're an advancing Iraqi army.
Though God help us if the Amercians are forced to retreat - they might think they're surrounded!
And as somebody else pointed out in another thread, these sweeping generalisations about US incompetence really don't serve any purpose.
I just think the yanks are mentally insane and are treating the war like it's a game.
