So after this blatant misuse of her position as an educator i was quite shocked to see when another teacher brought in a British flag on Thursday to hang in the staffroom, for no other reason then to show support for our troops risking their lives in Iraq, the headmistress storms into the room and rips it down and calls the teacher in question a *war mongerer*
Now if i wasn't annoyed enough that this idiot was forcing her views on the children by making the teachers use valuable lesson time to write quite pointless letters, in all honestly, i now was faced by this hypocrite. How dare she force her views upon children who have very little knowledge of this war in the first place and how dare she stop people showing some patriotism and support for our boys and girls while she shouts her mouth about how the war is wrong and all that which we've heard god knows how many times.
Now i respect her right to have an opinion about the war but i also expect her to respect others rights to show support for it or at least our troops. So around about 5 of us have told her that unless that flag gets put back up on Monday we're going on strike. I'm not doing it as support for the war but as showing support for our troops risking their lives so people like her can shout her mouth off all she wants.
There isn't a real point to this post it's just a bit of a rant to let off steam. Thank you for your time

I would have presumed they'd have told their parents of what they are doing in school and what not. There hasn't been any complaints i know of yet though

Who says we aren't providing the kids with an education? The only time we cannot is when we have to spend time writing little letters to the prime minister which he probably won't read anyway

How are we wrong for trying to be patriotic and in our own way show support for our troops. We are not wasting kids lesson time with our protest

Again we are concentrating on providing the children with an education. Our arguments only happened at lunchtime and then again after school in more detail

5 teachers going on strike doesn't suddenly bring a school to a screeching halt.

ok.
> they are 5-6 yr olds
That is ridiculous. Children of that age should not be roped into it.
Do the parents know of this? If I were a parent, I would make an official complaint.
> How old are the kids? Up to a certain age, they should not be

they are 5-6 yr olds
Only those old enough to take in the facts and form their own opinions should be involved, and even then they should not be forced to take a side or even get involved if they don't want to.
I'd point out to this person that by her actions she is herself being a dictator, much like Saddam though (obviously) on a much lesser scale. "You will do what I tell you, and you'll do it my way, otherwise you will be punished."
The consequences of disobedience may be far less, but the sentiment is very much the same.
She's wrong for making them write letters, and you're wrong for insisting a flag be put up.
I'll write to whichever L.E.A and make sure everyone involved is concentrating on their job - teaching kids basic skills with which to get on in life.
Politics has no place in school, be it writing letters to protest war or insisting that flags be hung in "support".
So she makes them write letters, that's bad.
Yet you and other are prepared to strike, costing more money and possibly making kids miss lessons?
You're both as bad as each other.

Might just do that unless she puts the flag back up.
If I were you I'd think about dropping a line to the local LEA or someone, just informing them that it's happening, then let them make of it what they will.
Some people just don't get it, shouting slogans and enforcing ideas they don't really understand.
They don't help the cause either.
They just give their opponent propaganda ammunition.
