Laughing Out Loud.
If I could rename the ‘word’ it would be in the form of LOC - Load Of Crap.
Having used the Internet since 1997 I can’t help but say LOL almost naturally when in a conversation online. Hell, I’ve heard many a time that people who regualry chat on the Internet or text alot say this during natural conversation. And at the end of it they look like a fool.
This is what I mean by LOL being overused, it’s like some kind of bug which gets passed on from one person to the next, spreading like a disease. It’s overused so much that 90% of the time it is typed the person isn’t actually ‘Laughing Out Loud’. Nope, instead they actually have a very straight face and are unmoved by the comment which triggered LOL to be typed.
What kind of crazy fool would you look like sitting at a PC ‘Laughing Out Loud’? Even worse, texting someone in public and just randomly ‘Laughing Out Loud’ in the middle of the street.
Watch this, I’m going to talk to a person in my Sixth Form called Kevin. Lets see how many times he says LOL without me actually being funny.
Waffle says:
This English Coursework is annoying me
What is happening to English football?! says:
lol
Waffle says:
Is it just based on one story?
What is happening to English football?! says:
all 3
Waffle says:
And I'm going to do this?!?
What is happening to English football?! says:
lol
Waffle says:
So I take quotes from all 3?
What is happening to English football?! says:
yep
Waffle says:
Thats insane
What is happening to English football?! says:
lol
Three times!
If I was speaking to him in real life at school I doubt he’d stand there and ‘Laugh Out Loud’ if I asked him the same questions.
What makes this even more crazy is the fact that people now put LOL if it isn’t funny, LMAO if it is funny and LMFAO if they actually laugh. Actually, if they laugh it’s LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL! LMAO! LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO! or something. Oh and I won’t say what those other ones mean because the filter won’t allow them, probably.
But I can put LMAO in another context ‘Laughing My Bum Off’. ‘Laughing Out Loud’ in front of the computer screen or in a public place is bad enough, think what laughing your bum off will be like. INSANE! How can you laugh your bum off anyway? That would require much skill, no?
So a few months ago I took action to mock this overuse of these terms, I made up my own form – LMFAOWWFITKUATRAUAOUMATSM. I won’t say what that means, it will definitely be filtered. Also part of the mock I put my Online Screen Name as ‘LOL Is Overused’ and whenever someone spoke I typed back ‘lol’. It had some funny results.
I urge you to do the same and mock.
So basically don’t trust anyone when they say ‘lol’, chances are that they are a liar. If you marry them and they have an affair you won’t know. Because they are liars, through the practice of LOL.
It’s been planted into my system as a young child, I have grown up typing it when I’m not actually laughing. I’m cutting down though.
Someone sent me a txt the other day and used lol. Now if I wasn't the internet literate (or mildly sad) person I am I wouldn't have known what that meant would I.

*Pictures Rolling On Floor Rolling Your Eyes Off.*
LOL
That was proper use by the way, my mum even investigated what i was laughing at.
Rolling On Floor Rolling Your Eyes Off.
If you have said LOL accidently in the real world how do you pronouce it? Would it be LOL as in lolly or just the letters L-O-L?
Hmmm
Nowdays it's all :-D or :-) or ;-) etc...
I still use it here and there, but only in an appropiate way.
ROFLMAO - how could they type that if they were REALLY "Rolling On Floor Laughing My 'bum' Off"?
There should really be an ecemotion for "rolling eyes"! :-D
His reply?
No.
And how obvious was it that people would reply with LOL to this topic?
Surely Christmas cards should have a big fat pic of Santa on with "Merry Christmas" or something.
Not a prince with elf shoes and the words "WISE UP!"
Bah.
:-D
You remember those
> horrible girls that were always druling on me? Remember? No? Err...
> "WISE UP!"... remember now?
Now that was a situation I did actually LOL to.
WISE UP!
> I’m cutting down though.
Poor thing. Sounds like a very nasty habit so I'm glad I never caught it. Hope you make it without too many withdrawal symptoms
