I'm doing a debate on monday opposing the motion 'The West is always Right' I have a few points but I need more ideas so that I can easily quash the opposition.

And yes, the opinon of Star Fury (or whatever he calls himself these days) would be appreciated then I can prepare some smart and witty retorts :-D

But... the "war" against terrorism...

It's either a war or it isn't!

The USA sidestepped that by saying they are not prisoners of war, opting out of the Geneva convention and then claiming that a Naval base in Cuba is outside of US borders and therefore not applicable.

Is it a formal thing, following proper debate format?

If so, seeing as it's a semi-open kind of motion, just watch out for ways the first proposition team may define the debate.

Obviously you have the right - morally correct, right - political stance (be it overall or relative to a specific scenario/philosophy/state/blah), and doubtless a few more if you think a bit.

Also, if the first proposition are smart, something along the lines of
"the west are always right. The imposition of 'victor's justice' has historically validated the west's immoral actions... [into examples of the west being immoral]"

...something along those lines and you find yourself having to argue for the opposite side to that which you prepared.
If you've prepped thoroughly you'll appreciate both arguments anyway, but it might still be worth considering a little further for structure and examples to support points.

If you've done your fair share of debating before then that's probably not anything particularly insightful, and there'd be a very good chance you're more experienced than I am.
Also, if it's just a casual kind of thing, where the two sides make a couple of speaches and knock ideas around, you can probably disregard a lot of that.

Just type Guantanamo Bay into a search engine. It can't be too far down the hits.

Certainly. Definitely in breach of basic human rights laws, and, as I've seen it quoted before, the geneva convention etc.

OK, seriously, all you need to mention is Vietnam, the war that America lost.

Oh and Korea, the war that America didn't win.
