As does the US, Uk and allies.

Because Policemen need AA guns, APCS, RPGS, military airfields, command bunkers e.t.c. eh ? Not to mention the weapons requested by the Grenadan regime for delivery in 1984, policemen need T series tanks don't they ?

At least they did something, unlike many.

I'm saying I don't care, they used it in their interests like all the other nations do, get over it, it proves nothing.

NATO acts well within it's own authority, as I've already explained and as you've decided to ignore.

The US invades and loses numerous of their special forces to lightly armed policemen.

The US wade in cack handed, fail to capture a single warlord, lose several troops, and generally inflame a bad situation.

All of that is just a different spin on the same situation. But your childish insistence that you're right and any other explaination is wrong...well, it shows your level of maturity.

And in any case, this post was basically to demonstrate how the US has abused their veto. Or are you saying that they have not?

So because America vetoed numerous things it has to sit back and watch a growing threat ?

Yeah right.....what they've vetoed has no bearing on this situation whatsoever. Security council members can veto, it's in the UN charter, so there is nothing wrong with it, except there are always consequences of doing so. In France's case it's going to be political isolation - notice that Russia isn't going out of its way to condemn anyone, nor is Germany, whilst France now wants a part.

1999 - US leads unsanctioned NATO force in Balkans, ending war and atrocities with no UN authority whatsoever.

1983 - US invades Grenada, again with no UN backing, and the people of Grenada welcome them, actively helping US forces seek out those wanted for arrest.

In Somalia, US forces were the only ones to actually go after the warlords, the UN forces were virtual prisoners in their own camps.

But who cares, they've vetoed stuff !!!

Also, you may be interested in this:

When the UN Security Council voted on the resolution enabling the first Gulf War, Russia didn't want a part of it then.
However, rather than actively vote against the resolution, they thought they'd be clever and just not turn up to vote.

The UN then decided that it didn't need affirmative votes from all 5 perm. members, so long as none of them voted against it.

So we only got the resolution for the first Gulf War because one Russian politician made a monumental mis-call.

Hmm, the BBC article seems to gloss over the procedure a bit there.

The UN security council vote on procedural and non-procedural matters.
(I forget the requirements for non-procedural. If anyone cares I can go check). The requirement for '9 of 15 inc all 5 permanant members' is only required for non-procedural matters.

However, if the question of whether a matter is procedural or non-procedural is raised, it is decided by a vote following the non-procedural format, ie) needing 9 of 15 and all 5 perm. members to vote for a matter to be procedural, or it will be treated as non-procedural.

Thus on any matter a permanant member can challenge whether it is a procedural matter, use their veto to make it a non-procedural matter, then in the vote on the non-procedural matter, use their veto again to prevent the passing of the resolution.

Thus we see the so-called 'double veto' that allows permanant members to prevent any resolution.

A country acting in its own interests? Hardly a huge revelation really is it?
