I decided to myself today that my computer SUCKS so I decided to look about for a new one. Wanted at least
2.4Ghz processor
512Mb Ram
128Mb graphics card, any type
a DVD Drive
a separate Cd Writer drive
60Gb hard drive.

Ok, searching about, went to ebay, found this .....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/ (SPACE) eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3405452185&category=

In my opinion, it looks an all right deal, but I don't know that much about computers.

Also looked at...

http://komputerkrazy.com and did Enter Shop/Systems/Base Units/AMD based.

These also look quite good.

Any recommendations out of them?

Well it doesn't really work like that. Basically, you could self build a computer with the same paper specs, and it may be a little more or you may get it for the same price, it depends, but this thing is, your computer will be a lot more reliable and faster too, as you will be buying your own components and they will be pretty damn good. This becomes even more attarctive if you're not afraid of overclocking, which a self build will be much, much better at. Basically, it specifies all those things but you don't know anything about what you're getting. You don't know if the Maxtor isn't a DM8, you don't know the motherboard isn't a VIA chipset, you don't know the RAM isn't some weird generic make from Japan.

With self build, you know you get quality, and that's what it's all about. I can't gaurantee it seems cheaper but it will be if you factor in what you're actually getting, and that's a system that will not only be faster and more stable, but will stand the test of time.

Ok, back to building a computer, how much would it cost for me to build the computer I just said, using the same parts and everything?

A lot less?

A little less?

And how long would it take a completely unexperienced person like me to build it?

So you wouldn't recommend it for me then?

And on the Komputerkrazy.com page I reckon the.....

KK 2400XP Gamers Plus
400w Case (front USB)
Gigabyte GA7VA Motherboard
2400XP Processor/ fan
512meg 333 DDR memory
128meg Geforce4 DDR video
16x DVD rom
FDD
80gb Maxtor 7200rpm HDD
56k Modem, 10/100 Network card
8x AGP for graphics upgrade
5x PCI for upgrades
1 year RTB warranty parts and labour To add items ie Neon

FREE DELIVERY !!

Price: £445.00
£522.88 Including VAT at 17.5%

... is the best.

Would still have to add on about 40 quid for a Cd writer or about 150 quid for a DVDwriter and about 80 for a Windows XP operating system.

Bringing the grand total up to, including VAT, 642.88. And I only wanted to spend 600.
Anyone know where there are any other good deals?

Not in the slightest.

Building a computer really is easy. You put everything in the slots where they need to go and turn it on. Also you can be pretty sure it'll be more stable and will run better than some low quality pre-build trash.

Building a PC is not much harder than putting together a lego set - you only need a couple of screwdrivers, but it's pretty much guaranteed to go horribly wrong and it's then that you need the knowledge and experience to get yourself through.

In theory it's a piece of cake, but I wouldn't wish the hell I've been through over the past 4/5 months due to recalcitrant, misbehaving computer parts on any expert, and certainly not someone who wouldn't know where to start diagnosing the problem. Maybe I just got stung.

Yeah? Thats another thing I dont know that much about, making computer systems from scratch. Does it involve soldering and stuff? Or can I just get a bunch of components, clip them in, install Windows then do stuff?

And if just Windows is about 80 pounds, how can the whole computer be worth less than 600?

Someone told me that because all programs are programmed for Pentium, so some programs crash on AMD systems.

True?

It's not a bad system, just you could do better if you built it yourself.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
