I decided to myself today that my computer SUCKS so I decided to look about for a new one. Wanted at least
2.4Ghz processor
512Mb Ram
128Mb graphics card, any type
a DVD Drive
a separate Cd Writer drive
60Gb hard drive.

Ok, searching about, went to ebay, found this .....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/ (SPACE) eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3405452185&category=

In my opinion, it looks an all right deal, but I don't know that much about computers.

Also looked at...

http://komputerkrazy.com and did Enter Shop/Systems/Base Units/AMD based.

These also look quite good.

Any recommendations out of them?

You can't just fit a random "bigger fan" onto a random heatsink just like that. To mount oversized fans on heatsinks requires a lot of time and effort, although I have to say it is well worth it. You could fit a faster fan on, but that would be louder.

Also, there are other things that affect thermal resistance, including the temperature of the actual air in your case, and the efficiency/szie of your heatsink. Aircooling is quite a complicated science.

Actually, that's no longer true. Compared by performance, Intels run hotter than the Tbred Bs.

Quick note on self-bulding computers. If you put it together, you can take it apart. Therefore installing hardware shouldn't be a problem, nor should opening up your case and fixing problems.

Best way to learn, thrown in the deep end.

If you have a fan on the CPU, then put on a faster fan, and the case temperature is still the same as before it means you are basically blowing MORE hot air onto the heatsink, its got a lot more to it than just fans as well, such as quality of the heatsink, and the amount of case cooling there is.

Another factor is the quality of the components, and how they respond to the overclocking, PCI cards can be a problem if they aren't up to running through a PCI bus that is running faster than the standard 33MHz.

I better have been right about all that :)

I have a retail Pentium 4 2.2ghz norhtwood chip and i can overclock it with retail heatsink and fan to 2.75ghz with no overheating or stabilty problems with a better heatsink and fan i can push it past 3ghz without a problem, that is basically what you can do, the speeds you can get will depend on loads of otherthings more than the CPU like ram motherboard etc, etc. Athlons tend to run hotter than Intel and they have no thermal throttling which protects the P4's from overheating and burning out, if you are going to overclock then i would advise you away from the maxx range as the intels use the (stable) intel motherboard that have no options for overclocking and also use ram that isnt great for overclocking, although i got an athlon xp2400+ running at 2400mhz in an maxx pc with no modifications pretty stable.

why tho, the heating is the problem right.

And the fan will cool that down.

Sorry for objecting to you, just dont understand why.

I'm afraid it's a little more complicated than that.
