Even going back to early first-person shooter like Doom and even wolfenstien there was a feeling for acheivement once the game was completed. Surely first person shooter have progress more than this.....having played the like of quake, half life and system shock 2 etc on the PC I am use to a much better gaming experience.
Have I been ripped off here or have I just been spoilt on a PC ?
For example, with the more powerful weapons you send the enemy catapulting through the air. Also, have you tried going on the same team as a zombie. If not, give it a go, and turn friendly fire off. Now shoot the head off your zombie team mate and watch him run around without his head. This looks even funnier in capture the bag when the zombie has the bag!
As for the reward idea. It is true that you have to work to get the rewards, and this adds length to the game. It was suggested that you could start with the rewards already, and then receive further rewards, but wouldn`t that apply to all games.
Challenge mode is target practice? Challenges such as 6b 7a-c and many others are more about capturing stuff or escorting people, not just shooting. I don`t know of any FPSs that do much more than that.
Lastly, the student bit:
Yes there is a large computer network. About 1000 or more PCs, all of which are fairly high spec. Can we link Quake here? No because the operators wouldn`t allow it, and besides, what`s the point in going to all that trouble to put it on 8 PCs when we can play 4p TimeSplitters at the touch of a couple of buttons.
> wouldn't it be nice
I would have to say in all honesty that I hadn't thought about it until now.
But, now that I have thought about it, I'm not really that fussed. It's not something I really notice when I get into a game.
The first time I played Soldier of Fortune I was impressed by the damage portrayed when you hit someone in the head with the sniper rifle, and I did chuckle when I shot someone in the stomach with the heavy machine gun and their 'guts' fell out. But after the first level, I never really payed it any more attention.
I suppose I could mention the X-box at this stage......thou the controllers do look a bit crap.
> It's easy enough to connect a Pc to a TV
That's if I want to move my PC. And I don't want to.
Also I doubt that my PC is good enough to run any decent multiplayer games at a playable speed!
Besides, the types of games I like play on the PC are totally different to the games I like play on console.

Because then there'd be

Rewards could still be made for your progress.

Don't get me wrong - I like blood and guts in games;

This is true, it doesn't spoil TimeSplitters but wouldn't it be nice ?

Yeah, fair enough - but

Its possible to do it in a cyber cafe. But it does take away from the atomsphere.
