Being 14 and not living in a particularly posh area, I have to survive in an atmosphere that involves the need to be “cool”. Whether this involves listening to music with plenty of swear words in it, yet no tune, or wearing clothes with “F*** You!” written nicely in various places – it’s certainly not my style.

Yet every day, I’m surrounded by people like those described above. I don’t know why I’m writing this, I guess it’s something to do with the fact that these people slowly dig into me each day. And I can’t stand it – people of my age are morons.

I often read posts in this forum, describing pretty much all young people as having bad manners, a tough image, and are willing to do just about anything to fit in the crowd. And I agree, yet I have to wonder – if I know better, why don’t they?

Which brings me onto this site. It’s always a pleasure to visit these forums, basically because it allows me to talk about things I can’t talk about in the schoolyard. It allows me to forget about having to fit in with people. This forum is one of the only places where I can be myself. A very rare thing in today’s world…

One thing I can’t do at school is talk about gaming. This is basically for two reasons – the Playstation is the only console to own (it would be “uncool” if I decided to buy any other console), or it could even be something to do with talking about gaming itself, being uncool. Of course, it would be much more interesting to talk about the latest “hoodie” (sp?) or Blink 182 album.

Yet here, I can talk about gaming as much as I want. I can say the gamecube is a good console, without being told it's only for a four year old. Another point being, people of my type are the majority here, with people that refuse to acknowledge the other two console’s good games (like my "friends" at school) being shunned out of the way.

I like talking to people that are older than me. Mainly because they speak sense, without the average "u am safe man", or "gamecube suks and iz 4 losers". I don't want to put across the idea that I'm showing off here. I know that some people might not be as clever as I am, and that's not their fault. However, that's not what I'm trying to say here. I'm trying to say that people my age are more selfish and immature than what I would expect from an average four year old. This has nothing to do with intelligence - it has more to do with having their priorities mixed up.

So, with only 2 people that seem to understand how the world works out of more than 30 I know, in what is supposed to be a clever school. Only two people that I can talk to, and maybe even have a bit of a joke about recent war issues without being branded “boring”. Only two people that don't insist on putting other people down for a laugh, and basically getting their kicks out of making others unhappy. I can only hope the world begins to change – before it’s full of morons.

If not, look forward to the war in 2030, about which new rock band is the best, or which swear word should be used in a certain sentance.

Thanks for reading.

Yeah, I did a post about something similar to this.

It's better to be an individual than to be a 'sheep' that follows what other people do.

I try to by myself.

And get ridiculed by one set of friends.......who are pathetic in their own right in that sense.

But my other mates are cool. They understand.

Problem is, If I didn't make any attempt to follow trends (that god knows who created), I'd be an outcast.

Although I do try not to just follow the crowd. Which is probably why I'm not the most popular person ever...

Hmm.

I agree. Why do some 'see' this and others not.

I have a group of about 15 friends who do.

They rule.

Another problem like you say *not being able to talk about other consoles as it is uncool*
