Play Shenmue.
Then cry, play Shenmue 2. Then cry that they'll be 17 chapters. Then rejoice at the possibilities that Sega could actually produce the best game ever made - oh waity they already have! Nights!!

Also, I've seen pics of both games, and Shenmue looks no better than MGS2.

And this. Note: at not one point do the 'sun' state that people can get a DC for £149.99

PLAYSTATION 2 was the most wanted present at Christmas - and the most hyped.

Crafty Sony bosses laid the foundations for a runaway sales success when they first revealed their new console in 1999.

That was followed up with a drip-feed of information that made the PS2 sound so awesome that games players couldn't wait to get their hands on the £300 machines.

By last autumn it was top of children's Santa gift lists. But when Sony limited supplies to Britain to just 165,000, desperate parents were forced to queue overnight for the few that were available.

And yestrday it was game over for the Japanese electronics giant when it was revealed that FAULTY machines had been supplied to shops.

Since Christmas their customer complaints staff have been inundated with more than 5,000 complaints about machines not working properly.

But those who have managed to get their PlayStation to work say they are sensational.

The sales pitch began in September 1999 when PlayStation 2 was unveiled in Tokyo. It was described as "the most eagerly awaited launch in the history of computer games."

Sony boasted it would give cinema-quality pictures.

In March last year the company saw a one million sell-out of PlayStation 2 when it went into Japanese shops. Games fans queued two days to beat the mad scramble.

British stores were told they would have to wait until November for the PS2 but some games retailers were allowed to take orders back in August. The first-come-first-served ploy and a shortage of machines ensured a buying frenzy.

Youngsters were left shattered when they realised that Santa would not be delivering a PlayStation. A black market sprang up with the consoles being offered for more than £1,000. In other countries near-riots broke out in the rush for PlayStation 2.

Sony have been so inundated with complaints they are failing to meet a pledge to fix any faults or supply a replacement within 48 hours.

Customers who ring a helpline on a special number which costs 10p a minute are being forced to pay a fortune as they are left on hold. Supermarket Tesco reveals how supplies were being manipulated by snapping up 2,500 Playstations from a trader in Sweden.

This prompted Sony to jet in thousands more from Japan - after saying no more were available.

Sony, Sega and Nintendo are soon to be joined by Microsoft as console makers.

All would do well to remember that today's fad can be history tomorrow.

PLAYSTATION2 IS HIT BY BUGS

No console-ation ... Sony admits 1000s of PS2s are not up to consumer standards

EXCLUSIVE

By PAUL CROSBIE
Consumer Correspondent

GAMES giant Sony has been swamped with complaints over its hi-tech PlayStation2 consoles.

Thousands of people say they have had problems with the devices.

And a memo from Sony chiefs warns staff: "We know a lot of our units are not up to consumer standards.

"Please be aware that a lot of customers will be asking questions about this."

The list of faults alleged to have hit the £300 PlayStation2 include disc drawer failures, loss of electrical power, lasers not reading discs and dual controls not working.

Almost 2,000 complaints were made on Christmas Day alone to Sony's customer helpline.

Since then the number of calls has topped 5,000 and extra workers have been brought in to deal with furious customers.

Some children and parents have been kept waiting for two hours or more after dialling a helpline costing 10p a minute.

Sony has promised to repair faults or supply a replacement PlayStation2 within 48 hours. But the company has been snowed under and unable to meet that pledge. Demand for PlayStation2 reached fever pitch last month when Sony announced that only 165,000 would be available in the UK before Christmas.

BBC1's consumer show Weekend Watchdog, which features the console tonight, said it had been told by Sony that problems arose because the machines had been rushed out.

But Sony spokesman David Wilson said: "The faults we have had reported to us indicate no trend.

"Inevitably, there will be a proportion that are faulty but it's not even the average in something that has such sophisticated electronics.

"The small number of problems we have had indicate difficulties in setting up the machine.

"We deny that we have any major problem."

I have to agree (as I don't know any better)

Bought a little thing called a Rumblestation for my kids. Super - about 18 old Atari games in a controller which plugs straight into the telly.

Because Sega will imitate the Sony fiasco, and attempt to issue a pre order system, Sony will send all the PS2's to the desert and we'll all be buying WAP phones with Sonic on them.

The best console out there is the VMU. Hands down, no question. It's the cheapest machine out there, has loads of games - for free, and fits in your shoe. Can't say fairer than that!

Right now PS2 costs £299.99 and DC costs £149.99.

Why not wait till next Christmas and buy both of them second hand with a pot full of games?

You do kind of expect a game costing £8 million to be good dont you?

I don't have £8million to spend on a game...

Shenmue cost $70million to make. FULL STOP!!
