You need to have a Hard Drive in your 360 however, but it IS backwards compatible.

True. However, it's a widely known fact that XBOX games will only be 360 compatible through emulation. Whether or not the HDD comes with a shed-load of emulators remains to be seen. I imagine the HDD will work with the top 30 XBOX games or so, then Microsoft and other developers will add some emulators as free DLC over LIVE.

Things may have changed, and the newly registered site (www.origenxbox360.com) might have something to do with it... but my money is on compatability through emulation and only with certain games to begin with. Hopefully Pro Evo 5 and most future XBOX released will be 360 compatible.. Lockdown and Evo 5 are my most wanted.

According to some site:

Microsoft Xbox games that have sold more than a million copies as of June 2005.

* Halo 2 w/ Limited Edition (4.7 million)
* Halo: Combat Evolved (4.09 million)
* Fable (1.75 million)
* Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell (1.52 million)
* Grand Theft Auto Double Pack (1.36 million)
* Project Gotham Racing (1.21 million)
* Madden NFL 2005 (1.21 million)
* ESPN NFL 2K5 (1.19 million)
* Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (1.16 million)

I imagine we can add the following to that list in terms of which games will be emulated fairly soon:

Madden 06
Rainbow Six 3/BA
Jade Empire
Project Gotham 2
Burnout 3
KOTOR II
Ninja Gaiden (Maybe)

There's some more...

Interestingly, Mario 64 PWNS HALO 2!!

Nintendo 64 games that have sold more than a million copies as of 2004.

* Super Mario 64 (5.94 million)
* GoldenEye 007 (5.01 million)
* Mario Kart 64 (4.8 million)
* The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (3.57 million)
* Donkey Kong 64 (2.87 million)
* Pokémon Stadium (2.74 million)
* Super Smash Bros. (2.74 million)
* Diddy Kong Racing (2.5 million)
* Star Fox 64 (2.4 million)

Nothing touches The Sims though...

PC games (including Macintosh, Microsoft Windows, Linux) that have sold more than a million copies. Rough figures.

* The Sims (10 million)
* Half-Life (8 million)
* Starcraft (8 million)
* Age of Empires II (8 million)
* Myst (7 million)
* Age of Empires (5 million)
* Doom (3 million)
* Civilization III (2 million)
* Quake (1.8 million)
* Age of Mythology (1 million)
* Neverwinter Nights (1 million)
* Return to Castle Wolfenstein (1 million)

No suprises here:

Sony PlayStation 2 games that have sold more than a million copies as of June 2005.

* Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (6.63 million)
* Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (5.76 million)
* Grand Theft Auto III (5.57 million)
* Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (3.74 million)
* Madden NFL 2005 w/ Collector's Edition (3.59 million)
* Madden NFL 2004 (3.44 million)
* Madden NFL 2003 (2.73 million)
* Need for Speed Underground (2.48 million)
* Kingdom Hearts (2.4 million)
* Medal of Honor: Frontline (2.3 million)

To read all these pointless and unofficial figures that are probably completely wrong for yourself http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best_selling_video_games

It's a widely assumed fact that MS meant that Xbox games wont all work on the 360, but what if they actually meant that the games wouldn't work al "all" 360's instead and everyone just assumed they meant they needed to be emulated, rather than the fact that you needed an optional piece of hardware, rather than software for it to work.

So maybe the nVidia graphics chip present in the XBOX could be included somewhere in the Hard Drive, meaning Microsoft only have to pay royalties on the HDD's sold and not anything else?

I'd love it if that was the case... it would make sense... Mind you, they specifically said 'top selling XBOX games' at E3.

Maybe we should just wait and see. :S
