I'd like to bring up the topic of pirate games and whether it's a good or bad idea. Really it could be both ,we the public, get cheap games and the piraters make lots of money. But for the producer of games it is a pretty bad idea; they publish a game, it goes out in the shops a pirater will buy a copy, pirate it and sell it to a couple of mates who in turn copy it again and sell it to some of their mates and so on. Everyone is happy, they all have a copy of the game, except of course the producers who see the sales figures and think it's not selling well and look for other ideas or even other types of games, this can be good for us untill they run out of ideas, we then suffer. I, personally think it's alright coz I get good, cheap games but I'm just raising the point that it could affect us in the long run. Lets hope I'm wrong and the piraters keep on pirating.

OKAY! I know it's tongue in cheek, but I had to reply with some serious comments,

gameboy...GAMEBOY!!! What about the Spectrum, C64 and other 8-bit systems! Do you know how easy it is to copy a game on a tape? Try primary school playgrounds in the 80's, they were rife with pirate games crammed onto a C60 tape.

I'm sure they have, you know.

#Sony did well out of pirate games, various Sony people have stated it. They increased the userbase of the console partly through piracy. If it gets too big a market though it will obviously be detrimental.

Dreamcast is now doing better because it's easier to pirate. Sega are, however, producing a new batch of Dreamcasts that won't allow boot discs, which is crap for the action replay company. Controversial!
I am not a supporter of piracy, but this is just what i have noticed.

"Piracy is a crime. Do NOT accept it" Piracy started on
the gameboy where people started to create a cartridge containing 80
games. People thought this was good and they then bought it. Even
though you could not really find them those days. One of the reasons
Nintendo created cartridge system was to avoid having piracy and
therefore they won for the only console still to date that does not
have chipps or pirate games made for it.

Sony suffered the most
from pirate disks because they made the console very easy to chip
and they used cdr disks so they could be copied even easier.
Playstation 2 has stipidly used this same system and there is
already a chip out and pirates are being made.

Dreamcast took the
longest to chip but it is now possible to do it by using boot disks
and action replay to bypass the language barriers. So Dreamcast is
the one that is now suffering to piracy because you do not require
any chips to run them

Pirate games are very unlikely gonna stop
being made but there are many things industries try to stop them but
they can't.

Piracy is gonna stay wheter you like it. If you are
any supporter of a system you should buy the game to support the
people who made it and keep the copmpony alive.
