Written in the 60s but the 1st time I've read it.
It was turned into a shoddy film called "Omega Man" with Charlton Heston in, but the book rules.
It's about the last guy left on earth with everyone else turned into vampires. HIs days are spent gathering the things he needs and trying to find a way to kill them and survive.
By night he barricades himself in his house, gets drunk and goes a little bit more insane each night.
I'm only about a quarter through it, but it could have been written last week for the style and pacing.
Evil Dead and Romero totally cribbed his ideas of being barricaded in a house, against all odds and supernaturl forces trying to get in and kill him.
Superb and well recommended.
I'll get this + Stupid White Men tommorow. Reading 'The McDonaldization of Sociaty' and 'The Brothers Karamatoz' at the moment.
That's one clever mouse and one of the few books we read at school that had any impact.
I usually only read when I'm travelling though, which amounts to waiting/sitting on the train to work.
I just decided to binge on Friday and ordered I Am Legend, Stupid White Men, Blood Crazy, Flowers for Algernon and a Chomsky one (worth but it's going to take an age to get through)
Might put it off for a while though. Having read the Hobbit recently, I can't say I'm a huge fan of Tolkien's condescending style of writing.
Then of course I have to finish "Interface", which is a superb black comedy about the American presidential elections.
The latest New Jedi Order book dropped on my doorstep the other day too.
Actually, the "queue" has become quite short of late. I'm impressed with myself.
Cant believe I left it so long before reading.
