So what's this 'eternal darkness' mode some of you've mentioned?
It was only half way through the third path I realised I should just shoot them with the pistol.

Normaly I just run, but I 'muderised' everyone in that particular case.....twice. On 'Heresy' now, so not really nearly there for my 3rd go.....

I'm surprised you managed parts of it with an axe...if it was enchanted then maybe, but one of the rooms, before you get the book, is quite hard, and I just went ballistic on full auto.
Nice and messy.
Although be careful with the grenades. Fantastic against Horrors, but you need to leave a bit of a gap.

No need to conserve ammo on that level, you get tw-at loads of it.
Just switch the type of shot to automatic and mow those muthers down.
Everything falls off then.
