I tell you what though, if anyone wants to get fit to army standards, or is thinking of joining the army but is worried about the fitness, this web site is the nuts

Get fitta with the TA

its design for TA personnel. It hs a week by week program. First you test your fitness, and it them gives you a week by week training program. You write your results in and you get a progression chart. It shows you how to do sit ups and press ups correctly. Its fantastic and its what I use =)

have a look!!

Yeah I know, I think thats pretty bad. same as the fire brigade.

In the RAF (im hoping to join soon) to become an officer, even before your accepted for officer training you hafta do a bleep test. from there on once you ARE accepted, your fitness is tested. it starts off hard and gets harder

The police fitness test is a joke, level 8 on a bleep test, 40lbs grip test about 20 push-ups and a small agility test. Its not even an anual test, pass it once and your in.

To get in the TA, you hafta run 4 miles in under an hour with 30 lbs on yer back as basic, you also hafta do a 3 mile run in something like 30 minutes with no weight. The army (infantry) a couple of years ago you hadda run out as a squad for 1.5 miles and back on your own (WITH weight) in 20 minutes. Its hard work. maybe it haschanged now, but the SAS isn't only about fitness, but about stamina. same as any service, if you don't have stamina you won't be any good.

Just finished watching it and i've got a whole new level of respect for those people actually in the SAS. The level of fitness required is just amazing and there's no way i could ever do anything like that. Well i could but i'd probably die trying
