I don't understand it but I would still like to know the cost, and No stupid remarks like £1398.93 okay!

Don't know why it's so expensive. In America the cost of living is very cheap (some would say the cost of a life over there is very cheap too but that's another story) so therefore although we may feel hard done by when it comes to prices over there vs prices over here, we are really very lucky to have the freedom of choice, which is completely denied populations of some other countries. A recent example of this is China installing its own internet to prevent Western decadance disturbing the fragile minds of its citizens.
So although the price we pay is higher, it is bundled with freedom, which you can't really put a price on.
Unless you live in Pembrokeshire.
> 299 USD, 299 GBP.
They don't have VAT (£44.68) in the USA and local taxes are instead ADDED to the price.
There is also the question of import duties, which vary, but I recall the import duty on a CD32 being 15%.
Basically, if you live in the UK then you need to remember that more than the sum of everybody's income in the UK is spent by government. Incredible as it may seem.
Employers have to pay 10% tax ON TOP of everything they pay their staff and typically the RATES on shops are 50% of the RENT. These costs all get passed on to the consumer.
Blame the Government on this one, not Microsoft
The Mk.III British version will work just fine, hence the 'console priced console' as Bill so quaintly put it.
