What you should do is send the receipt to your insurers, tell them it is beyond repair, claim for £299, get a cheque, and in the meantime send the PS2 off to be repaired. Most insurance companies never check up on claims under the value of £500, anything over £500 and they use the loss adjusters to look for evidence.
You could probably still claim now seeing as it wasn't that long ago.

I would rather position the PS2 on top of a really steep pyramid, its probably less likely to fall off!
