Hey folks, I need a little help in making a decision, so if you've got the time, could any of you help me at all?

I've just discovered a writing competition with a closing date in the near future, I have to get it sent out in less than a week, basically.

So instead of starting from scratch, I thought I could play with one of my existing tales, and submit that to the contest.

But which do you feel has the widest appeal/ biggest effect?

"Fire Disaster"

Well in the end I sent off two, as I discovered that for a small additional fee, they give feedback, so for £1.50 each story, the good folk of the Exeter Writer's Circle will tell me what they think.

Unfortunately many of my stories were too long for this one, as the word limit was only 1500, so I sent off The Maize, and Cubicle 3.

I've just discovered another website though, that concentrates on stories with a twist, again the word limit is 1500, so I'm going to rework the fire disaster story, get rid of something to bring it down to under 1500.

Anyway, thanks for the support.

I've just read them all. I think that Cubicle 3 was good but I preferred Love Lost. Not sure why, but the ending stuck in my mind. Excellent stuff!

Yea, erm, Cubical 3. And Darren, Selfish Cow one.. they are the bestest ones. Read what you said about selfish cow one but if you can enter it, enter it. Hell enter them all, even chuck in a few "When Consoles Attack" and see what they do :o)

Do The Maze, but there's a couple of typos in there (I just read it again). You could also have the woman at the end explain to the student what the pattern was, maybe, as that was a question that was running through my mind at the time. Make it something that noone would suspect, like each turn corresponding to the pattern of the words in a nursery rhyme or something like that.

I would go for Lost Love or Fire Disiaster. Those are the two that really stand out for me. I find short stories tend to need a suprising twist at the end, as there's no time for much else in the way of stimulating the reader's thoughts.

I think Fire Disiaster is the better overall, but Lost Love is the sort of thing that will really make an impression. It's your call.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Excellent support service!
I have always found the support staff to provide an excellent service on every occasion I've called.
