I've got a brand new iPower 5542 laptop. On the second day of having it, the GeForce 4 Go overheats, burns out, and now I can't see anything. Fun fun fun.

Just thought I'd have a moan, and see if anyone else knows of this.

Well, the replacement seems fine so far.

Ive messed around with, built and repaired many a laptop and you will probably find that the graphics chip does not have a fan on it at all, anyway it may just be one of those things, overheating is a good possiblilty but unlikely as it should have been tested like the sr one's are using a 3d application.

Like he said too much heat, doubt it. The graphics card will have its own fan, probably 2 of them if its a high spec one.

Take it back.

Could have still been the cpu, as you said it still loads, how do you know it's loading when there is no picture?.

Things do break if they overheat, Sniper. That's why we have these fans on top of them. :0)

It's not the cpu because the laptop loads, and all the Windows Welcome crap is played. And if I plug a monitor into it, that doesn't work either, which means it's not to do with the connection from the graphics card to the screen. It crashed while installing Max Payne, and when I restarted it, no screen.

All the same, it's been sent back [full of cracked software, oops], and I'll get a new one tomorrrow.

Are you sure it's the graphics?, it might just be the screen ribbon has come loose or even the cpu has died?.
