"But I'm a Nintendo/Sega user!"
Not for long. The new screenshots for 'Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec' have been released, you'll find them on a lot of sites. I've just seen them.
The first question you have is 'Is this a photograph?' You look a bit closer. This is actual in-game footage you are looking at. Don't believe it? Believe it. The detail is stunning, that's the first word that comes into your head when you first realise that this is a game you are looking at, not a still from Cannonball Run.
If this is what the PS2 is capable of at this early stage of its life, just think what we will be seeing 12-24 months down the line. No, don't bother, you can't. It's that amazing. It's impossible to imagine the future of the PS2's abilities, because if it can do what GT3 is indicating, you can't imagine in your wildest dreams what it will be doing in 2 year's time. So point your browser at a search engine, look for GT3, and prepare to be seriously wow!ed.
And if you just bought a DC because the PS2 wasn't available, start thinking about what you will get as part-exchange value in March.
And if you are going to stick by the N64? Have fun, it will always be an entertaining console. But you'll have to put up with snipes from PS2 users until you get a Gamecube. But will the Gamecube be capable of in-game footage like this? Only time will tell.
A decent platformer, a great shoot em up, and a good RPG might catch my attention...
Meaning of disapointing: Could be a lot better.
But from now on, they should start getting a bit better, because they weren't rushed out for launch.
And also I was in GAME and played a go with my friend and the graphics are no better then the PS! and this is coming from someone who prefers the Playstation. Also the price of the PS2 games have gone up by a few quid in the shops!
Before today, there was nothing to make us think that we had left the 64-bit console behind. Even the best DC screenshots or live games cannot compare to the sheer impact of what the PS2 is declaring in its arsenal of gaming weaponry, just going by these few screenshots available today.
As of yet, Microsoft haven't released anything this spectacular, but we all believe that they one day will. Perhaps even today at the little talk that Bill Gates is giving we might see a little of what the X-Box is capable of. But like I said, this evidence posted today from GT3 for the PS2, due for release in the USA this spring, certainly makes the future of gaming a very appealing place for us to want to be.
But I can tell you now - the Playstation 2 is set to fail. Microsoft will see to that - they are the richest, most powerful 'double - company' in the universe (with the exception of the O2 suppliers on Mars) and so they'll see to it that GT3 doesn't spoil their launch into the world of gaming.
FantasyMeister I know you are excited - who wouldn't be, but Microsoft's machine will be better and produce better graphical wonders.
However, I may well take that offer of a PS2 + tekken tag + Gladiator for £349.99 from a site...
Only joking... I'm sure daytona USA Online will do fine. But You're right - the game looks dazzling. Expect Ridge Racer V to go crawling back for a complete overhaul if it wants to come close!
They are quite nice, aren't they...
