I've just registered for a competition taking place in a couple of months time.

The idea of it is that you get given a topic, a really vague subject, then you have 36 hours to write a story on that subject.

So I want practice.

Give me a subject, then, go on, and I'll write a story on it tomorrow, or the next day, depending upon when I have time.

Stupid subjects will be ignored.

I read that too - although to be honest the winning one wasn't that great (the reason for this I think is the word limit). I really hope you do well in this, by the way, I know you've got the skills to do it. You should get in the "commended" section at least. But I don't what you'll write at the time yet, so that's a little premature.

Yeah - my story I anticipated would be a side and a half, it turned out to be four sides. And I think I need to add a section to make it gel better as well.

Much better! You could get a lot of practice in between now and April, and people here are always ready to give you a topic. Or a pack of five.

One of my worries is that I just won't have any inspiration for a piece on that subject - maybe the one I just did was a one-off thing. I'll also need to practice if I enter it. I'm seriously considering it now.

Go for it!

I was reading about the last one they did, the subject was 'wind'.

Wonder what it will be this time?

I'm actually having a spot of bother with my first story here though. I've started on something, with no end in sight, but I have to get it finished tomorrow at the latest. I'm at 1000 words, and at an intro.

Bah!

Still, better I realise such potential pitfalls now than when under a real time limit!

I might just enter that Meka. Although knowing my luck I'll forget about the competition and not go on the internet that weekend...

I've only just started on the first, the no spoon one, but they'll all be done within 36 hours of starting each one, and all by the end of the week...

Anyway, the competition itself takes place on the 12th and 13th of April, see the following URL for details:

http://www.writelink.dabsol.co.uk/ Competitions/Weekender_Challenge/weekender_challenge.html

There's a space in there that needs deleting...

There's an entree fee of £4, and a limit of just 100 entrants. I had to post my entry though, so do it online, and you'll register before me, and I might miss out, then I'll be upset.

Meka - just finished writing my story on the topic I gave. It's almost four sides of A4 (narrow ruled), which is a lot longer than expected. How are your stories coming?

Also, is there any chance I could enter this? Seeing as I enjoyed writing the previous story I'll have a crack if I'm allowed.
