So there I sit in a Car flicking through Radio station to Radio station and what do I hear? All the same poop which was being played on the channel before it.

I am 100% right in saying that if you like Pop/RnB music and you live in this country then you will enjoy the Radio here. If you do not like that type of music, which is a large percentage of people, then you are forced to insert a CD player into your Car so you can listen to your own music. Even though I'm sure many people do that anyway.

It is true though, Radio One most the time plays the same type of music then you switch to something like Essex FM and it's "Hold on, didn't I just hear this song?". It's the same thing on every Radio station, apart from a small percentage of local/pirate Radio stations which exist which focus on certain types of music for the listener.

It troubles me though because Pop music is basically being planted into children’s brains when they go to School in the car, when they come home from School in the car and then some more when they get home and start watching TV. Who are all those guests on Saturday Morning TV? Pop stars.

"Here they are...IT'S BLUE!"

"Here they are...IT'S WESTLIFE!"

"Here he is...THAT PERSON THAT WON THE LATEST MUSIC BASED REALITY TV SHOW!"

But I suppose, if they show stuff people have never heard of nobody will watch. What a boring bunch of viewers, I'd rather watch and listen to something I've never heard of before instead of the same repeated crap being played on a Music TV Station such as Kerrang! or Smash Hits or whatever.

Straying away from Radio I think there...

A perfect example of Radio is my house at the moment. My sister is in her room listening to Girls Aloud and downstairs I can hear a Radio Station playing at a pretty bad quality. It's this Radio Station from Holland we can pick up here in Southend on Medium Wave called 'Aero Classic Rock' or 'Arrow Classic Rock', one of the two. My Dad listens to that Radio Station in the kitchen, in the front room, in the Car...everywhere. I found myself, whilst flicking through the Radio Stations in the car, choosing Arrow over all the other stuff. XFM Plays crap alot of the time as well, the live sessions they have are great and the Lock-Up on Radio One is pretty good. Did they ditch that though? Or was that something else? I heard it was basically a programme giving air-play to those who don't get heard and it got axed...that's just pathetic.

All my Dad wants is to listen to Arrow Classic Rock on a better frequency meaning he'd be able to hear the songs in better quality. He was even asking about the new Digital airwaves coming in soon. But for now he's stuck with Medium Wave as he is living in this country which has all the same stuff playing on not one, not two, but almost every single Radio Station. How much of a rich country are we? And here is my Dad tuning into a Radio station from Holland.

I praise America for having many local stations which play a variety of stuff. I wish they could have that here.

I actually look forward to the day when we are able to tune into Internet Radio stations as they are becoming high in number now and offer every music taste you can think of. Then maybe we'll see all the Radio stations ratings we hear today go down and those of smaller stations rise. And why? Because they offer something new to the ear which suits our taste in music more then the rubbish we hear over and over again today.

Will will go far with his career as he has that 'different' kind of voice, I can see him being around in quite a few years time...

Gareth won out of sympathy, whenever he did crap his stutter came on:

"S...S..S...Sympathy vote please"

He will soon get bored of, once all the little girls have got their new pop idol, he'll just be performing in pubs...

I can really see Will going quite far with his career...

I don't really mind listening to the radio that much, even if it all is a load of cack compared to other stuff.

At work we've got the radio on all-the-time on our breaks, so I heard a lot of the same stuff over-and-over untill I hate it again. But really, I don't find it that bad to listen to.

I hate boybands like Westlife and all that cack, aswell as complete and utter ponces like that Gareth and Will, but there are maybe one-or-two females artists, maybe some others too, that aren't really all that bad.

Maybe it's just because I'm at work and have to deal with all the stress there that I don't really mind it then...
I hate listening to it at home.

I listen to The Storm on my TV in my room when I work out, and my alarm clock is set to Radio 1 (so I can hear the news when I wake up)

Radio in the bathroom has a broken slider (can't tell what station it's on) so I just tune it till I hear a modern song. I usually get Galaxy or Metro FM, but sometimes I get Radio 1, which is alright

You lot will probably be morein the things XFM play...

Check out www.XFM.co.uk

It's a London based station which is part of the Capital FM group so they've got the money and that's why they're good...

Listen live on the website, Zane Lowe from MTV2 is on at the moment, you just missed Zoe Ball choosing the most unappropriate song for the moment...

Yeah, BBC are funded through the TV liscenses and all that jazz, so they don't 'need' to pull in listeners to survive. Which is good, because at least that way we get some goodness. (Even if it is on at 2am...)

Other stations are paid for by commercials. Meaning they need to keep people listening or the ratings fall and advertisers use other stations... So they bend to public opinion more.

Out of all the stations I praise Radio One in a way. I just like the way that different DJ's play different stuff and they have stuff on like the Lock-Up and stuff. I suppose though BBC have the money to fund it all and create a large network of stations whilst other stations don't have alot and so have to concentrate on ratings.

No, the fact that ANY song (no matter how good or bad) can get in the charts if their record company pays radio stations enough just demonstrates why radio generally sucks...

There's also the fact people are being a little hard on Radio One here. Do you think the brilliant Flaming Lips could have got to #18 in this weeks chart without the Radio One support? Same for The Libertines at #20. Okay, granted, the fact that these are in the chart makes them pop music, but still.

It was Lamacq Live that got axed. The Lockup is still going. Infact, I'll be getting up at 2am tonight (tomorrow morn technically...) to record it to MiniDisc. For my amusement while going to/from school on the bus. I can't stand listening to the radio on the way and coming back from school.

Anyway, yeah, most radio sucks. But it inevitably always will. Because the stations need to get listeners. Which means making stuff which is easily accessible and which people recognise. Taking the risk of playing something no-one's heard of isn't worth it.

As trends change, the stations will change to suit these. So basically unless you like pop boy/girl bands, at some point you're likely to find yourself turning off the radio in disgust because they're not playing anything you like.

Personally I belive any music worth listening to is worth looking for. Not saying that if something's on the radio it's automatically crap, but if you really like music then there's no point assuming that the best music is on the radio...
