If you've never seen footage from Gears of War before and you mix gameplay from both games, you'd probably think they were the same game. I was watching a movie from Gamespot that mixed trailers from Quake 4, Gears of War and other games, and had trouble telling which was Quake 4 and which was GoW. I had to lock on to the character designs to see. Not bad for a 2-3 year old id engine, don't you think? I suppose the only thing GoW will have over the tweaked Doom 3 engine (Quake 4), is that it can do uber massive areas, whereas Quake 4 can only do massive areas. I was also thinking while watching GoW that all its technology seemed to be in making things look detailed on a texture level only. But hell, it still kind of looks the same as the 2 year old Doom 3 game.

The same Doom 3 that was released in August last year?

You know, the one that still can create almost photorealistic enviroments?

Gears of War uses the Unreal Engine 3.

And who says kids play too many war games these days?

Oh, my mistake. But I still stick with both games looking similar, and one being old-ish.

Quake 4 looks like it's going to suck IMHO. While the Doom3 engine is untouchable for rendering indoor areas, it struggles immensly with lighted outdoor areas.

I've never been less excited by a Quake game than from the demos I've seen. Why is everything so....rigid? Those walking robots look crap. Bring back the Shamblers, says I!

The 'Shamblers universe' was ace, I admit. Better than the second universe id created.

That's because id are the masters at BSPs which are amazing for indoor arenas, but useless for wide open spaces.

I preffered the outdoor areas in RTCW to the indoor ones.

That didn't use the Doom3 engine though.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Wonderful...
... and so easy-to-use even for a technophobe like me. I had my website up in a couple of hours. Thank you.
