I've just been looking at the new Hard Drives Special Reserve are selling by 'Western Digital', and have to say they seem pretty good.

Does anyone own a Western Digital Drive, or heard anything good/bad about them?

I've had similar experiences with aria: cheap prices, hellish customer service. I had a malfunctioning motherboard and a fully blown CPU - they replace the CPU but send back the same mobo. Motherboard still does not work. I send it back. All is quiet on the western front. I spend a week on hold on a premium rate phone line. I give up, and send dozens of increasingly bitter emails. No reply. I spend another week on hold, until I finally get through. I speak to someone who has been recently lobotomised. We finally agree that I sent back a motherboard. Motherboard is traced to 'lab'. Motherboard is indeed broken. I suggest that another motherboard should be sent to me. Moron agrees. Nothing happens. Repeat the above a couple more times. And, voila, a month later my problem is solved.

same old story, you get what you pay for.

EBuyer are cheap but like you say, there is NO support etc.
Not only that its the time and hassle involved with their non-working parts.

Ha, I wish.

eBuyer give virtually no aftercare whatsoever. Most HD drives these days seem to fail within a year, believe it or not, so if you're likely to want to send something back, eBuyer are not the company to use.

What's more, there are certain rumours on certain forums I visit that eBuyer's products, regardless of brand, seem to fail earlier and have a higher DOA rate. May just be coincidence...

you see right to make people buy your products you sell them for the lowest price! :D kapich?

It's called "customer service"

They do look good, so I might get a couple of 80GB drives for my new machine.

Also ftozzi, I had a look at ebuyer, and although they are cheaper, I've had nothing but good service from SR, whereas quite a few people don't seem to rate ebuyer, so I'm willing to pay a bit more from company I know I can rely on ... thanks for the tip though.

They do seem ridiculously cheap though, which also makes me a tad iffy, as I believe a price that cheap can only mean they are cutting corners somewhere.

Ebuyer are filthy cheap and generally very good, until something goes wrong and you find they are a nightmare to contact and send you back ridiculous, dismissive 1 line messages telling you where you can shove your memory stick etc.

I hate them, really hate them, but I still use them :O/

The Caviar models are good. Most things that run at 7200rpm with an 8mb cache that don't have IBM or eBuyer written on the side are good these days.

BTW, don't buy from eBuyer, even brand goods. You'll regret it.
