I've been trying to install a highly configurable forum on freeola, the only trouble is it needs cgi freeola has that, so I tried uploading some files: here are the files I want to upload or at least similar to these bssdbz.blahpro.com/
the end result after installing the files should be, bssdbz.blahpro.com/YaBB.cgi(The forum i'm trying to upload) but i've tried uploading them but for some reason can't i've e-mail freeola on the matter but they couldn't help,

so I thought there might be some brainy people who could help!

I've uninstalled that program as it had some nasty spyware in it!

I've found a very good PHP board, I've uploaded it and I'm just testing it all out..

Now when I want to install this on Freeola, I will have to put in the MySQL database host thingy...

At the moment I have to put in 'Localhost' what will I have to name it as if I am using it on Freeola and not on Lycos...

I still want to use the MySQL database on Lycos...

YaBB works without a DB, at least in the form that you're talking about.
Take a look at yabbforum.com, no requirements for MySQL etc.

I'll give it a go...

Saying that, the test page seems to sometimes not show a link as localhost but as file:///C:/Program%20Files/Omni/HtDocs/test.php

It then asks me to download it!

It worked at first but now it's stopped!

You just have to put the PHP Files in the same place as the HTML files.

Like PHP and HTML files go in the 'htdocs' folder with Freeola, PHP and HTML files go in your Server Root on your machine.

http://www.chrisjhaig.co.uk/Server.gif - You'll see the Server Root is a folder called 'localhost' on my D:\ Drive, simply stick yout PHP files in the folder you have set as the Root.

My 'localhost' folder is the equivelant to Freeola's 'htdocs' folder ... see?

I've got this Omnicron thing but I can't find where to put PHP files...

Wherever I put them and open them they still won't display properly!

There must be a manual for this thing somewhere!

Basically, I've put the cgi-bin files into the cgi-bin, and I've put the public_html files in the main folder...

I haven't got a clue what to do here!

I think I should just try an online host, it will be a bit easier!

I'll just ponder about for a while, if anybody knows any free hosts that accept .cgi then that will be great, I just want to test it out before I upload it to Freeola...

Why not look into hosting your pages from your Hard Drive???

I've got the omnhttpd (http://www.omnicron.ca/) Web Server, and host my pages on my second Hard Drive to test the PHP pages before Uploading them.

It supports CGI as well, and you could download mysql for the Database testing?

Must.try.out!

I need a free .cgi host to play about with and test things with before I dial up to Freeola...

Portland don't work with NTL!

Are there any other good hosts that I can use that allow .cgi files?

Sure can :).

Some hosts allow connections to the database on your account from other sites, so it is possible.

Some, however, do limit you to only being able to connect from a script within that account.

So it's a case of try and see
