Basically i am looking at upgrade as a few of you know.

I was looking at a AMD Athlon 64 3700+ but i'm now thinking bigger, now i'm looking at AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+.

I need a CPU that is pretty much going to last for 2 years or at least a while.

Thoughts? other CPU suggestions?

I'd stick with the 3700+ SD. Dual Core is still early and probably worth waiting until M2 beofre using one. The 3700 is great for gaming and anything else at it and also a great little overclocker. Happy with mine.

Overclockers is the cheapest i have seen the duel core for £329.95 which isn't bad as all i'd need is a motherboard as well.

I'll probably wait a month or two as i have no income at the moment, although i do have the money to buy it now.

Bloody hell thats cheap for SR http://specialreserve.co.uk/AMD-Athlon-64-3700-R_1549_r.html

Then add on VAT...

The only way you can get the chip as cheap as that is if you buy it OEM, bit risky for such an expensive cpu.

Yup forgot to add it, still not too expensive.

Komplett have one for £365 inc vat so i'd probably get it from there unless i can find cheaper.

unfortunatly SR let me down as they appeard to have a very cheap 3700+ but they had the wrong pricing on it :( i probably would have got it this week.

I was going to get this for the 3700 http://specialreserve.co.uk/ATX-350-Watt-Repla_9667_r.html as i ideally need the PCI=E slot for a future upgrade.

But i think i might look for something better if i'm getting the 4400 adn just have the AGP slot

http://www.omplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=303412&cks=PRL probably that one, but to be honest i could do with some help picking a motherboard as i haven't really got a clue.

This is when you wish you had upgraded the rest of your PC with your graphics card.

PCI Express is definitely the way to go. I don't think you can get an AGP version of an nForce 4 mobo, which would have been the best option.

If you want an agp board then i would probably go for a DFI Lanparty UT NF3 Ultra, the board had some teething problems at the start but afaik its now full steam ahead. I think Asrock is a budget spin off from asus, even so for only maybe £20 more you could get a proper asus board with the Nforce chipset.
