I was looking at a AMD Athlon 64 3700+ but i'm now thinking bigger, now i'm looking at AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+.
I need a CPU that is pretty much going to last for 2 years or at least a while.
Thoughts? other CPU suggestions?

The prices on items in shops/on websites is actually 'invitation to treat'. When the person clicks 'buy' or brings them to the till, the customer is the one making the offer to buy, and it's at the shop's discretion whether it wants to accept the offer. You can't actually demand to buy things if the price is marked incorrectly. The only legal technicality might be that the shop/seller is violating the Trade Descriptions Act.

Although I've never done it myself.

Well, until games and apps are written specifically for Vista, then most people will probably be ok. You of course, don't (and can't) play the modern games on your pc.
I have no idea about your application requirements. I personally need Visual studio .NET 2003.
That's a win98 no-no.
I can't remember why I upgraded from 98.

Have you seen the suggested specs for Vista? Although I imagine you're suggesting that people simply stick with Xp.

'need'?
