Actually, I have just done this. After working in a company thats been M$ only for the last 3 years, I have finally convinced them to go PHP with a few projects to evaluate it. Even managed to get then to go *nix too!
As for contract work, the client will go with what ever they are sold too. Most push for ASP as all they have heard is M$ and ASP, atthe end of the day, they employ you to do a job, it's irrelevant how unless it's dependant on infrastructure. Unless specifically requested, I will always use PHP for private jobs.
ASP: Expensive, bulky, tied to microsoft...
I could go on all day... I use both everyday and in all honesty, up until about 6 months ago I would sit here saying ASP, but after months of playing with PHP/Linux etc, I would definately say PHP is the way forward, even after the dawn of ASP.NET!
This is a crap argument, one with no clear answer, but at the end of the day comes down to preference, cost and "need".
Ask anyone in the industry today and they'll all say the same thing... PHP unless .NET proves itself to deliver!
> PHP, because that's what I know :)
Precisely. No offence or anything but that is all you guys know. Thats why you rant and rave about it so much.
I use both and can honestly say there isnt one better than the other. They both have their merits and downfalls. If you walk into a job or a contract and they ask you to code a page in ASP you dont say well PHP is better. You do it in ASP. End of story. And thats what i think some of you guys forget.
