It was absolutely amazing

As you may know I'm a big Manics fan and this was the first time I'd see them, although it might be their last. Anyway we ended up getting caught in traffic on the way there which wasn't that bad as we missed most of Ian Brown, who was appaling. He might have saved himself if he just played some Stone Roses stuff... the band was alright but his voice was terrible.

Anyway I managed to move my way to the front with my mate, who is tall so I just followed his path. Think the start was delayed due to lighting problems which was quite annoying. I ended up standing to a complete cockface... he had a bloody Amstel bear top and his mate had the orange Rangers top. He pisssed on the person infront of them (got some on my shoe)... then did the 'bouncy bouncy' and then decided to annoy some bloke with a feather boa. This annoyed me as this is the sort of thing the Manics used to be about but you get these morons who turn up for that 'aboot libraries and that wan aboot tolerating nae pish'. I talked to a few nice people though... two guys from Wales who were going to about 6 gigs and I talked to them about the early days and stuff. Then I talked to some gorgeus feather boa/tiara girls which was great.

Anyway, they finally came on with a massive cheer and opened with Motorycle Emptiness. The crowd went mental and I moved about 10 metres forward and was at the front of the stage. The openers were the crows pleasers such as Australia, You Stole the Sun and Masses Against The Classes. All the small people at the front starting to run to the back, I stayed but gradually moved back the way due to tall evil people. Split up from my mate but it didn't matter. Masses was amazing live and I could feel my throat begin to strain singing this one. There by the Grace Of God was next and it was quite haunting live... a pint exploded on somebody's head next to me, soaking me. Kevin Carter was good, one of only few singing to that one as well. Then they moved onto a rare type one... Slash N Burn... Waheh, that was fantastic live, suffers from sounded to quiet on the album. The the 'moshing' started up again for Tsunami... I never thought you could jump around with that one, turns out you can.

Then James ate some love hearts somebody threw on... to cheers of 'you fat bas' even though he's really thin now. They dedicated Motown Junk to King Tuts Wah Wah Hut and a shop that sold the record. Sucide Is Painless isn't one of my favs and felt it was a bit naff, chance to breath though. Next was another from Generation Terrorists and quite rare... Stay Beautiful which was dedicated to Richey (the one who went missing). It was bloody fantastic and I seemed to be the only one screaming 'fook off' at the chorus. James brought out the acoustic and teased the crowd with the start of Repeat... but then went on to Little Baby Nothing... not one of my favs but was alright. Although the highlight of the night occured... two feather boa clad girls fell over and I helped them up and received a kiss of both and sang along with them, was great. Semi-acoustic Faster was alright on it's own as a song but virtually murdered the original version which is one of their most powerful. Last acoustic of the night was Ocean Spray which was very nice in a foot tapping way.

James got the Les Paul out again for From Despair to Where which once again was really fantastic live... and once again I was nearly the only singing to it... and people still managed to mosh to this one. Then one of my favourites, Roses in the Hospital which the mongs left off the Greatest Hits even though it's named after some of the lyrics. Then the morons probably got confused when future single Forever Delayed was played after it... (in Roses in Hospital lyrics are repeated 'forever delayed'). New song was good but not as amazing as people have made out.

By this time my throat was really starting to hurt and it was really hot and I was covered in lager. The Everlasting was up next... I was surprised as they said they hated and would never play it again. I don't mind it but it went on for too long and the lights started were irritating. Then I think James lit a fag and introduced the band and everyone cheered then they fired into Everything Must Go which was another full crowd singalong, followed by the popular If You Tolerate This.

By this time I must have been dehydrated or something as I started to feel really done in but I knew Design For Life was coming up and I certainly wasn't missing the finale. Second last song was You Love Us which also had the video for it on the giant screams... once again I sang along even though I thought I was dying... then some cockface elbowed me in the back of the head which sent me spinning but I stayed. Then the closing number, probably their most popular. James and Nicky stood up on the amps, nicky wripping off his fur coat to reveal a mini-skirt... eurgh. James thanked the crowd for an amazing show and said it was always one of his favourite places to play. They then launched into with plently of emotion... they must be sick of playing it but they really looked like they meant this one... James left us to sing the final chorus which was really fantastic, 10000 Scottish people singing in unison was great.

Then in the final drumbeat I felt myself really starting to feel dreadful... My muscles were killing me as was my stomach and I knew I was going to be sick. Do you know I managed to get out from the middle front and make it to the toilets without chucking my guts, I'm proud of myself. I think I must have had concussion from the guy hitting me. I then bought 5 drinks and finsihed them in a minute. I wanted to buy a t-shirt but queue was too big... met up with my mate I lost and headed home. Went to bed suffering from 22 songs of constant singing and jumping with my ears ringing, head spinning, throat killing and muscles in a spasm... one of the best night of my life honestly.

It really was amazing... the SECC is a crap venue but the crowd and setlist were great and the atmosphere created was fantastic. James and Nicky were on top form... music was amazing and full of passion and the talks to the crowd were funny and such. Best band in the world and excellent live.

Only spoiled by some morons, getting urine on my shoe and having concussion but excellent. I found myself liking the earlier songs such as Stay Beautiful, Roses in the Hospital, Motown Junk etc even though Everything Must Go era is my favourite. I would have liked to have heard Revol and La Tristesse Durera but you can't have them all.

Really excellent... Thank you for reading this if you have. And the setlist is below.

That was annoying. As was him repeatedly standing on one leg with his arms outstretched for no apparent reason. And his constantly saying how good looking he was.

I saw them last night at Wembley Arena. I hate that venue with a passion. They were great though, really fantastic. And I think I've actually permanently damaged the hearing in my right ear.

Ian Brown's set cannot be described with words that would pass through the censor. Him and his band did some great songs, he just couldn't sing them.
