I've often thought about this as being the worst part of maths, and will i ever use it when i leave school (what the point in being taught it when your not going to use when you leave school unless you want to be a stock broker or somthing and i dont)
So why do we get taught if we it is irrelevant to life?

a very well known algebra equation is

E=MC squared

were would we be without that :)

Without advanced algebra, and differentiation and integration techniques, we wouldn't even know the formula for working out the circumference or area of a circle.

Maths is nothing without algebra. All we could do is add up, take away, divide and mulitply.

We would still be in the damn stone age.

Algebra was only ever useful when we had to work out stuff in our heads. With the introduction of calculaters there shoudnt be any need for this crap.

I find basic and nearly advanced Algebra easy to grasp hold of, and I'm just laughing at the idiots next to me who can't even do their 13x tables.
Most of them are girls so there's no worry there.

I do computer science and Algebra is fundamental to programming.
It is very useful; just depends on your career.

why do people find algebra so difficult to comprehend?

It's just sticking a letter in where you don't know the value so that you can try to work it out. An advanced version of 2 plus what equals 5. If you can't grasp that, god help you if you want a decent career.

Engineering, physical sciences, things like that.

I dont think even stockbrockers use algerba.
