If we evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?

Plus, if we evolved from monkeys, and the theory behind evolution is 'evolving to survive' (general I know), why is our brain so large?

In other words, why did we evolve a brain so large and powerful, that we can never hope to use its power. Its said that the average human uses less than a quarter of his brain throughout his life.

If it wasn't needed, why did we evolve it?

We didn't evolve from monkeys. Monkeys and Humans evolved from a common ancester that died out many millions of years ago. In the same way all mammels evolved from a common ancester miliions of years before that.

Any more questions?

On a more serious note, it's like saying:

If there a labradors, why are there also other sorts of dog?

Fact is, different species evolve at different rates. We evolved from Monkey's, but as we didn't kill them off they are still around.

What you should really be asking is:

"If we evolved from Monkey's, why aren't the other types of animal that are halfway between us and monkey's?"

If species evolve at different rates, how come Gorillas haven't begun the change towards being human? For example...
