Hideo Kojima, best known for creating Metal Gear Solid, is creating a GBA game with a light sensor built into the cart.
The way this will work in games is that for certain puzzles n stuff, you will require a certain amount of light or darkness. i.e. if you had to sneak through an area, you would need to be in a dark room.
The one flaw with this idea is that people will just cover the sensor with their hand when they need darkness. But still, it's a decent new idea!

That's a good idea... I kinda like it and think it could be taken further on into the future of gaming.
But what about for people with Afterburners?
How would they cover-up the light from that without ripping-apart their GBA's and further-damaging the warranty??

There will be another slight problem. Actually, for some, this could be a big problem.
