As you do on an Open Day. I was going to have a chat with some biologist bloke, and this strange Chinese bloke just walked up to me and said "YOU! YOU!" I smiled uneasily and tried to escape without knocking over furniture/people, and he said something that sounded to me like "Gaz!" which is my name. Might not have been Gaz. I'm pretty sure I don't know any Chinese people. Very strange.

Also, Warwick uni is crap. I'm not going there.

Belldandy, I know exactly what you mean.

I commute to uni, about an hour and a half into central London every day of the week (mostly weekdays, but sometimes weekends if I have to use the library for essays and stuff), and often its only for an hours lecture or a class. I participate, I listen, I make notes, I feel myself absorbing the information more and more, yet...

...it seems the more knowledgable I become, the more disillusioned I become with it. At school, it's like a constant battle to work hard and get the best grades to go to the best unis. Yet, as I get older and maturer, its like I'm reaching a higher state of conciousness - I know I'm hardly ever going to use this information, and as every day goes by its seems like a bigger and bigger waste of time and youth as the world outside the comfortable four walls of the classroom passes me by.

I can picture my future - wok hard, finish uni, get a job, work hard, then that's it. And frankly I don't like it.

Yeah, I know, but to school of Biological Sciences isn't what I want. I'm sure it's good for people who want to sit over a microscope all day, but I want to do more applied stuff.

Went to Southampton uni today. Loved it.

Same here. I had a year out when I left Birmingham and was too late to go anywhere else, and I enjoyed that one year more than I like it at University now.

Despite what they say, being at University is still like being in some big school, and there's a nagging doubt that a lot of what you do is only useful, and understandable, by people in Universities and that's it.

I really want to do something in retail management, and I could've tried to get into a trainee manager course at work, probably have gotten onto it no problems as degrees aren't needed, but by the time it started I was at Uni. I want to do something real, not endless exams, papers and so on. It's not like I can't do the subject either - first year resutls average was 71.9% putting it in the first degree boundaries, and my marks this year are just the same so far as well. When I'm at work - only part time- I envy everyone else because they actually do something with their time. I spent two hours today driving back and forth to Uni, and two hours there in a lecture we only need to do one 500 word piece of work. Pointless.

Possibly what the government is missing is that we need more alternatives to university - at the moment it's basically thought to be essential for anyone wanting a decent job in the future, which is wrong. Two people my age at work may not have degrees or even A levels, but they're far better than most people I know at University.

But I'm stuck here now, in my second year, and I daren't quit it. Which sucks.

Huh? It's consistently among the top 5 rated universities in the country for undergraduate courses and research. For subjects like history it is one of the top three places to go.

Also being a greenfield site the social life on campus is far better than any other uni I visited and any one I know that visited Warwick from other unions were impressed by the Union and Ents programme.

As far as I can see the only downside is that it's in Coventry, but you can live nearby in Leamington Spa which is pretty much okay.

God, I miss it so much =(
