Surely a topic that will go on and on!!!
Firstly, some annoying STAR TREK points:

1) Neelix from VOYAGER
2) The Federation always wins in the end
3) When an episode tries to be "funny".
4) The Borg no longer seem to pose any trouble, especially to Janeway in VOYAGER.
5) Just how many temporal anomolies or transporter accidents the writers seem to use when stuck for a story

(I`m a big Sci-fi fan and like both Star Trek and Star Wars, but even fans can only put up with so much...)

There can be no argument over this one.
Star wars wins hands down.
Star trek is ok but i would never choose to watch it.
However starwars looses points due to Episode one.

still no question

Tone one thing that really bugs me Trek wise is Data in TNG - They way the writers decided to give him verbal diharia (sp) to make him sound 'technical'.

I'm surrounded by engineers where I work and ... it just isn't like that.

Oh, and the claims of scientific/technical accuracy for the entire show/s annoy me too.

I dont like the way that the Holodeck seems to have unlimited range, cos when they go in it is a small cramped room when the program is run it changes into a beach and you see the crew at various points around the beach, a good example would be Nelix's holo sim (the one in the beach where most of the crew chill)they are spread out, some playing vollyball some sitting relaxing and others way of in some other part of the complex, this is very annoying as the holodeck is tiny, a 'good' example would be the Star Trek film (cant remember which) where the next generation crew find that massive holodeck thats the size voyagers should be to include all there stuff not in a tiny 'broom closet' sized holodeck :(

Hmm... all the games???? need i say Rebel Assault 1 & 2, Shadows of the Empire and Force Commander? All these were really bad and overated in the Games mags. Believe me.
Still you could also say the same for Trek games... only Elite Force has really stood out.

Some very valid points raised by Darkreaper.
Neelix is certainly annoying, he is supposed to be an ambassador but still works in his little kitchen, he is also supposed to be getting security training from Tuvok but i`ve never seen this happen and worst of all he`s the ships morale officer - i`m surprised anyone has stayed aboard!!!.
Janeway does have some qualities which link her more to Kirk and Sisko. She never backs down from a fight and she does have alot of time/compassion for her crew - but there is one factor that has hurt her image and damaged the series: Janeway VS the Borg.
When we first met the Borg (courtesy of "Q") in the Next Gen, they were a force to be reckoned with, single cube ships destroying whole fleets of starships (The battle of Wolf 359) and even the assimulation of the seemingly untouchable, Captain Picard. Now here comes Janeway, and despite all the good intentions made by the film FIRST CONTACT, here we have a seemingly softer Borg that she is able to defeat at every encounter, even her so-called assimulation by the Borg Queen turns out to be an elaborate plan to "infect" the collective from within. (Stop me if i`m giving away too much from forthcoming Voyager episodes). Cube ships are no problem to her and Voyager seems to be able to hold its own against them with ease. The writers of the series say that the Borg are going to feature heavilly in the last episodes as a major factor standing between Janeway and getting home, but after recent outings, unless the Borg regain some of their former nastiness and mystery then the threat will be minimal and Janeway won`t even smudge her lipstick fighting them.
Now, Jar Jar Binks.... oh dear, oh dear! this was a bad idea, one that even Lucas admitted that he could have "treated with a bit more dignity, less comical aspect to the character" and is proberley making sure that this is the version we will see in Episode 2. Binks was mainly the token comic character, an attempt to create another successful addition to the Star Wars family, but this was a mistake. Why not have two of the best carry on doing what they do best: C-3PO and R2D2. Lucas shows us how they meet, but then we lose C-3PO after a few minutes of screen time. Surely the idea here should have been to progress the friendship of these two and show us how they came to be aboard the Rebel Ship at the end of Episode 3, thus starting Episode 4. But no, instead we have just R2 and the silly Binks as company.

If anyone is interested, check out the other topic i`ve started, TREK/WARS related....

I can honestly say that not much that I can think of has annoyed me in the four Star Wars films. Belive it or not I can put up with Jar Jar Binks, I dont think he is as bad as everyone has made him out to be, sometimes it is difficult to understand what he is saying, but it is with Jabba aswell. Episode 1 needed Jar Jar's sort of humor in it seeing as 3PO didnt have much of a part to play, he is usually the butt end of jokes. Actually something that I felt could have improved was part of the acting in The Phantom Menace - I thought that maybe George Lucas was a bit too forgiving with Anakin and his mate (Kitser - I believe). The acting was a little weak at times.
I agree that Darth Maul should definately have been given a longer role. I didnt think he should have died at the end, and he should have played the bad guy through Episode's II and III right up until Vadar enters the scene.
As for the classic trilogy, they never seem to age no matter how many times I see them. When I say they are brilliant I dont mean they are perfect. I have spotted loads of errors that should have been sorted throughout the special editions, such as Ponda Babba's hands changing from cupped to hairy in a matter of seconds in Episode IV. What is brilliant is the way these worlds, characters and vehicles are so believable. You just cant help but admire what has been acheived in these films. I have never seen any other film as the way I see Star Wars. Overlooking the errors and you have some of the best movies ever made, the best stories ever told and some memorable characters, worlds, etc... Episode 1 perhaps only a minor, minor dissapointment but makes the grade nevertheless!!

I watch both Star Wars and Star Trek and i think both of them are good but both of them do have faults.
Star Trek:
The original, Next Generation and Deep Space Nine are good and i think they will remain a good part of the Strek Trek world (not so much Deep Space Nine but the other two defiantly) Notice how i've missed out Voyager. Sadly this is were the Star Trek world is starting to suffer from too many spaceial anomalies and Holo-Deck malfunctions. First off the captain Janeway is a poor captain who has let the crew push her around too many times and when she does her tomboy-tough-girl act it’s pathetic. She has a.....unique voice with was ok when the series started but now is just plain annoying. She sticks to the Prime Directive in the most serious and dangerous of situations when she could easly take a short cut saving her crew, the ship and a few years off their voyage but no she has to play the good captain and stick to the rules. If Kirk was in charge they would properly be home by now with their feet up with a nice replicated cup of coffee talking about how you had to pull down the tops in the Next Generation every time you stood up. (it’s true! Every time Jean Luc Picard Stands up from his sitting position he pulls his top down, duh!!!) Janeway is easily the worst captian out of the four and i hope future captains will learn from her pants decisions and really pants voice. In Voyager you have a mixed crew of Star Fleet personal and Mockie (don’t know if i’ve spelt that right) After one or two episodes they act as one whole crew with only a few minor problems and the leader of the Mockie is put second in command. Seven of Nine is also a minus (as well as a plus!!!) when you consider how bland she is. Yes, she is a Borg but her character has not changed one bit. She is still the bring plain borg who keeps on reminding us how crap the human race is. None of the characters have made any major improvements on themselves over the episodes of Voyager. There have been slight changes but they are pretty much the same. Neelix is also very annoying. I think the only reason he is there is to counter act the Tuvok (again sorry but my spelling is pants) who is a bit boring for a Vulcan. Even Spock had is moments. Another thing is the Holo-Deck. No matter they might prove to be if they were removed from the Star Trek universe the writers would be in some deep poo. Same with the transporters. These two pieces of equipment have spawned many stories and some of them have been quite good but they just keep on seem to keep going wrong. I do however like the Doctor. He is one of the best characters in the Voyager series and he even appears in Star Trek: First Contact. Howfully whatever Star Trek thingy they bring out next will not suffer the same effects as Voyager.

Star Wars:
Apart from the fact that in the three original films they all had really pants hairstyles and the lightsaber fights were a bit boring (compared to Phantom Menace) i think they are some of the best films ever made. Phantom Menace had a lot to stand up to and the fact that the film was very hyped up before its release contributed to the overall downfall of the film. If this film was released without the Star Wars Trilogy standing behind it i think the film would have done very well. What was George Lucas thinking when he made Jar Jar Binks? He really brings the film down. I had to watch the film numerous times to even understand what he was saying and then when i did understand what he was saying it was all gibberish. Also Anakin Skywalker was played by that big headed kid who is a pants actor. He was just annoying at times, even when he was not supposed to be.

I know i haven’t written that much about why Star Wars is pants but i’ve written to much and i’m tired. I’m going to replicate a cappuccino while i charge up my lightsaber

Poor `ol MattyBoy....
Face it, there must be a few things about the STAR WARS films that annoyed you? No film can ever be perfect as there is always something that had to be cut, edited or re-shot within it that the film changes from its original inception. True, Lucas has attempted to put this right with the so-called Special Editions, but having viewed these i can see just minor embellishments, and some stuff that didn`t really require any attention now being spoilt.
Don`t think these somewhat negative comment about your "brilliant" film are ment as any attack upon you, but sensibly you must conceed that some aspects of the first trilogy were best left untouched, whilst Phantom was certainly NOT the film that everyone was hoping for - i mean, name one other film which plasters the face of one of the best baddies ever all over the posters and merchandising, only to have him appear on screen for a total of 22 minutes and about 3 lines of dialogue??? Would the WRATH OF KHAN been any good if he was seen briefly for 5 minutes and uttered just three words?. To balance this debate, look also at STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE - Faced with the competition of STAR WARS back in 1979, Paramount knew they had to bring Trek to the big screen - but what a mess it is... too much time spent giving so-called "beauty shots" of the Enterprise, the V-Ger cloud and other dazzling effects which ment we have no room left for a story, and what story there is seems to totally forget that half the crew is there - leaving an entire film held together by Kirk, Spock and McCoy. The effect of this is we now get the odd/even syndrome with each film, odd numbered films being generally bad and even numbered films being better, if not great.
Simply saying everything is "brilliant" is a falsehood, when it quite plainly is not the case with STAR TREK or STAR WARS - Both have serious faults which need to be addressed, and hopefully shall be.

My own personal opinion is that Star Wars is brilliant!! As far as I am concerned nothing can ever better it. I think all four films are excellent and can watch them over and over again. I respect everyone has their own opinion about it, but mine is that Star Wars is the best thing ever!!
