Does no-one understand who has replaced them? Kids, getting paid far less than firefighters get NOW. They do it why? Because they want to save lives? Because they want fame? Because they want money?
No. They're doing it because it is their duty to serve. These are the people I want as my fireservice. Not people who would have me burn should the dollar not tip their hand.
That the firefighters have stood down from their duties is, to me, disgusting, and the whole lot of them are held i contempt.
£30,000 a year? These people don't deserve to be fed pig testes.
the supply of incredibly talented footballers is small next to the demand for them, so if you want good players, you have to pay through your nose for them.
There is no shortage of people who can be firefighters.
The dispute is over money...what a surprise! It saddens me to see people's lives put at risk because of money, especially in this way...I do feel the Firefighters are being a *little* bit greedy, maybe, but I think that the government do need to step down, at least for the moment, and give the fighters what they want so that less lives are lost.
Although, saying that, maybe they're not so greedy. It relates back to the debate of why footballers like David Beckham earn millions for kicking a ball around everyday, and why nurses/firemen/police etc, who put their lives on the line everyday, are underpaid (when being compared to the likes of Beckham anyway).
I'm probably wrong, but still.

And when a train driver gets it wrong and runs a red signal (as is becoming more and more frequent), who goes to cut them all from the wreckage?

Obviously, personally, I thin they should have rejected the pay increase, and dumped the hundreds of thousands of spare cash into healthcare. But giving the firemen a payrise just to avoid looking hypocritical is nonsense.

Well said. It sickens me to here that hoax calls are higher than normal at a time like this.
There really are some sick individuals out there. I hope they die in fires one day, because they are putting the lives of others at risk.
Yes, point accepted. BUT when a government official brands a 40% wage
increase "Greedy" when he himself has just voted to give
himself a pay rise of exactly the same percentage; indeed of a greater
value, it does seem a little hypocritical.
Is what I meant to write.

Yes, point accepted. BUT when a government official brands a 40% wage increase "Greedy" when he himself has just voted to give himself a pay rise of exactly the same percentage; indeed of a greater value.
Oh and you can't sue the fire service because they don't owe a duty of care to arrive in time, or in fact to arrive at all. Ambulances are fair game though.
I always post in these discussions and I'm always ignored.
