Anyway, for the rest of you, I`m shocked! I just read page 478, and Anakin is dead! I sat in bed reading last night, and when I`d finished that page, I just didn`t move for about 5 minutes, wondering how they`d managed to get rid of such a powerful next generation jedi.
The way he went out was truly heroic though, and was well worth reading, but I still can`t believe it happened. I feel so sorry for Leia and Han (yes, they`re imaginary too, but you kinda get into these things), especially after Leia was curled up on the floor in pain.
Even Luke was struggling to hold things together, and shield his dark side emotions from his son.
Anyway, I`ve still got a few more pages of the book to read, so I can`t wait to get back tonight and start up again. I really want to find out how Jacen and Jaina cope with the loss and see if they complete their mission.
Also, in the same way as I`ve done at the top of this post, if anyone who has read these books already is going to post any spoilers, please label it at the top!
Anyway, my favourite EU character is Corran Horn. I imagine him looking like Obi-Wan in Episode 1, for some reason. He rules with his silver lightsaber, and I loved the scenes between him and Ganner Rysode. What happened to Ganner, incidentally?
WWWWHhhhhhhhoooooossssssshhhhhhh
The Corellian Trilogy was also fairly interesting, but mostly because it was introducing how powerful Anakin already was. This set things up for the New Jedi Order so that everyone would already be accustomed to Anakin being looked up to as the potential "next Luke Skywalker".
The Thrawn stuff has always been my favourite though when it comes to Imperial entanglements. Timothy Zahn did a brilliant job of thinking him up, and the Noghri are pretty impressive too. The cloning idea later on wasn't quite as clever I thought, but he handled it well, and I was able to believe it thanks to the fact that Thrawn had already been built up as a character who knew and anticipated almost everything.
Bringing Mara and Luke together was a good idea though, and the way they seem to link through the Force is certainly something to admire. They are able to build on this and use it well during the battles in Star by Star, often finding themselves talking to eachother via the Force. Its good fun to read!

If you read the authorised ones, they all fit together nicely. The consistency is impressive, and there are never problems in the timeline. Originally with Bantam press, and now with Lucasbooks, the main series never sees Luke's head cut off. Go here to see the books in the official timeline:

I think they either made that up, or it was an unofficial comic of some kind, or, its some story I haven`t read where it gets reattached somehow later on... though I doubt that is a possibility.

There are lots, I`ve read more than 80, so I know what you mean, but if you`re looking for a good series to read, then I recommend either the Timothy Zahn series (the Thrawn Trilogy on my timeline page) or the New Jedi Order series (the right hand column of my timeline).
Are you sure you want to know this? If not, don`t read below:
- Apart from Chewie and Anakin, nobody else has died, though with so many books still left to read I`m not convinced it`ll stay that way.
- The final invasion is coming, and the New Republic is just about holding its own. This book, Star by Star, seems to be the pivot point in the war. At the beginning, things were getting really desperate, but now there is a glimmer of hope, thanks to Anakin's heroic actions, and the jedi being allowed to fight alongside the Republic.
As I feel its already spoiled the Anakin surprise I`m not going to say anything else... other than keep your eye on Vergere :D
> Didn't one of the Star Wars book authors have Luke's head cut off?
Not that I remember... unless that is in a later part of the New Jedi Order series. Perhaps they plan to get rid of Luke later as well... who knows? It wouldn`t surprise me anymore.
Wahey! A reply! Thanks Stryke!
Anyway, enough of the happy emotions.
Its really bad, but at least with Chewbacca I could see that he'd had a good life, started a family to carry his genes to the next generation, he'd helped Han for years and protected many people, he`d done really well.
With Anakin, he'd certainly saved lives, but he'd never had a chance to get going, that's what made it upsetting.
As for Wedge, he`s still going, and seems quite happy, though with the way these books are going, I don`t feel certain about any of the characters' survival. In previous trilogies, the characters always seemed invincible. You always knew they`d make it out of danger somehow, so it caught me completely by surprise with Chewbacca. For about three books afterwards I was expecting him to show up and be alright, but its definite, and now they're getting rid of more of them. Unbelieveable!
As you read the post, have you read these books, or were you just not bothered about knowing?
