I can honestly say I dislike Christmas and while my credit card company loves Christmas (or at least the pounding my credit cards receive), my Bank manger doesn't particularly like it as I'm 'in the red' until that other commercial celebrations in March (aka Easter).

Although I'm aithiest, It's not the actual Religious bit of Christmas I dislike, after all the 25TH of December is only One day out of 365 days in the year and although most of western society is built upon a 2000 year old fairy tale that supposedly took on the 25TH December 0000, It's still not that what bothers me.

What does bother me about Christmas, is practically everything else, Christmas Dinner, Christmas Decorations, Christmas Trees, Christmas Television Schedules, oh and of cause the commercialisation of Christmas!

I think everyone accepts the commercialisation of Christmas now but why? Why is that every year people act like brainwashed (Or brain-dead) Zombies, "We Must Shop" "Shopping Is Good, We Must Shop More". Of cause I'm guilty of myself and even though we are only just in to November, already My credit card has received more pounding than Prostitute giving away Freebies.

I suppose you could even class Christmas as an addiction and if you do, Then I am admitting to being an addict. Yes, I have a compulsion, an addiction to go shopping, to Spend money, to buy tacky Christmas decorations and even tackier Christmas presents.

My addiction is so bad, at Christmas I even forget my principles. I buy a tree that has been needlessly cut down, I then use this tree for my own pleasure and then even though I try my best to replant the tree, it just shrivels away and dies. If that's not bad enough, I must use the equivalent of another tree in wrapping presents, which themselves are mass produced, overpriced Branded high street goods.

Apart from Shopping and financial issues of Christmas, I totally dislike the whole concept of 'Christmas Parties', why have a party at Christmas, are you really celebrating the birth Of Christ, or is just an excuse to consume massive amounts of alcohol (For those who need an excess or maybe it's an excuse to loose your inhibitions and do ridicules things that you wouldn't do anywhere else except a Stag or Hen party?

So, I hate the whole commercialism of Christmas, I feel guilty about Christmas Tree's and I don't see the point of Christmas Parties. I could go on and on all day, I could rant on about Christmas Dinners, naff presents and assembling children's toy which make putting together an Ikea Book shelf look simple But your probably relived to hear, I won't, I think you get the point now, I DISLIKE Christmas! (and who's with me?)

I don't fancy watching figs. Must be dead boring. Unless they are naked of course.

I know, but I didn't have much time. :D

CHRISTmas.

CHRISTmas.

One point I'd like to reply to:

Krieger, in some ways you are right, I expect less than half the UK population actually think of Christmas as a religious holiday, and I have no real problem with you celebrating it... but surely if we ignore all the arguments about facts and dates, then Christmas would not be around without the birth of Jesus Christ? Surely Christmas is primarily based on a Christian theme - Christ's birthday.

Well...so did some of the Romans. But man, you should have seen what they did with them; Stephen Milligan would have been proud!

I adore the commercialisation of christmas. As a religious festival, it's about as Christian as Monty Python's Life of Brian. All the Papacy did was take the Roman festival of Saturnalia (which was, for it's time, an EXTREMELY commericialised and bacchanalian orgy the like of which I can only, and frequently do, dream of) and bolted some Christianity onto it.

Come to think of it, I can't think of a single Christian holiday that ISN'T the remnant of pagan times. Gimme that ole' time religion...
