Why?
Is it because Americans are greater consumners and with the large amount of choice available, you have to cram those DVDs with enough features to convince the Yankees to buy your disc as opposed to the other one?
Who cares. Region 2, in fact, licks balls.
I got Spiderman this morning and Mallrats.
My all time favourite Kevin Smith movie on DVD, with a buncha stuff.
Compare:
Mallrats: Region 1 - Special Features: None
Mallrats: Region 2 - Feature commentary with Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Ben Affleck, Jason Lee and Scott Mosier. Over one hour of deleted scenes with intros by cast and crew. Live footage from commentary session. Featurette. Trailer. MCA soundtrack presentation. Production photographs.
It's just no contest.
And Donnie Darko arrives tomorrow, whilst us stupid Limeys still go watch it in the cinema.
Region 1 rules all.
Play.Com rules all for Region 1 DVDs.

Yeah I knew before the 1 disc version was out, as it was said in a online review. Still wanted the film so I bought the single disc version. Going to get the 2 disc version whenever thats released.

But did you check the back of the Region 4 DVD, some have Region 2 on it as well. I was in Woolworths just looking at the DVD's and one of them Shrek Collectors Edition or something like that had Region 2,4 on the back. It was compatiable with Region 4. A region 4 DVD shouldnt work on a region 2 player, as whats the point in having a region 4. Check to see if it doesnt have a region 2 some where on the back.

Aye, CD-wow yeh? All thier stuff is shipped all the way from Hong Kong. Once you spend over £30 (or somthin similar, I cant remember the exact figure) you gotta pay those stupid taxes becasue it is coming from another country.
Anyways, Play.com ship from Jersey (which is part of the UK methinks) and you dont have to pay any tax on purchases from them. I've bought quite a few PS2/GameCube (£30+) games from them and they've been okay.
However, i'm getting a multi-region dvd player for christmas.
Any recommendations?

They are. Just some need to be chipped.
Popped over to play.com to 'have a look'.
Now £62.78 poorer.
On the plus side, I did get the new Foo's album with limited edition free DVD, which rocks most royally. And it was £8.99 which rocked even more royally.

I should have read this first!
Thanks, Goaty, for answering my question before I even asked it!
