"How safe are domain names?"

I just saw something on a site about 'Back-Ordering' domain names. Is this legit? Does this mean that it's first come first served when mine runs out, or do I get first dibs from the ISP?

there has been alot of companies taking money for alledged reservations of .eu addresses, but there is not definite date when they will become available and no price has been set.
So many people must have been that desperate to get the address they wanted that their brains stopped functioning !

I'm not sure about that back ordering thing, probablky a good idea to read your Terms & Conditions, they might allow it, I really hope they don't.
It's annoying when someone buys the domain but doesn't bother doing anything with it...

I was looking into buying pocketmonkey.com, but some other spod got there first :(

www.sine-wave.net

...was registered by (don't ban me) 123-reg.co.uk, and they'll alert me before it's about to expire. When you buy a domain like www.sine-wave.net I think you do have "first dibs" on re-registering. I know that on www.sine-wave.net it'll automatically re-register for me, as I have checked the option. I know I'd be pretty annoyed if I lost www.sine-wave.net!

(That's www.sine-wave.net if you didn't get it the first time)
